I've been watching the new season of Proud Family so....ig I'll review it
Starting out, it's a two parter, the Prouds(and Dijonay for some reason) are in Paris. Oscar reunites with someone he interacted with a lot during his time working in the cafeteria. Hated the interaction lowkey cause it was like he was actively hitting on this woman in front of his wife. I do not recall at all if he was like that in the original series. Fast forward a bit to the girls interacting with the French guys they met, then another time skip to the doorman that was very much giving coon based on his interaction with the black people vs the white ones. They finally find a way inside, find that their parents are missing and there's the woman from earlier in their hotel room telling them to go home without their parents. A lot happens and they track down that woman that had changed her appearance and end up in a spy lair and find out Talia is the boss of this international organization. Don't know how she's managing the weight of the world AND this whole other thing at the same time, but okay. It ends with Oscar and Trudy being revealed to have been being held hostage, those French dudes were bad guys working with this lady named Lucy Fur, and Oscar is getting tortured squidward style cause the chip is inside him.
In the two parter, they reveal this dude that has something that's causing him to age backwards at a VERY fast pace and he's running out of time and needs a special plant to finish the cure. But anyways yeah, things wrap up, go fine. The dude is saved just before he becomes a fetus because the plot had transformed into saving him after getting Trudy and Oscar back and finding Dijonay. Overall I was actually kind of bored watching the two parter.
The next episode was about colorism and.....it felt rather rushed and the writing direction could've been. Trudy tries to enter Penny enter the paegent when her old college friend visits. Penny very clearly doesnt care for this at all. But there's a cringe lone about how zoomers don't support beauty pageants and are into doing the walk trend on TikTok instead or whatever which feels like a line clearly written by someone that isn't Gen z cause ???? Not to mention this iteration is hardly a zoomers cause she's 14 in 2025 and would relate far more to Gen Alpha as the oldest of Gen z rn are 28š
Dijonay however is SUPER hyped about wanting to be in a beauty pageant and Trudy goes and supports her, thinking she'd be picked for the pageant.
Trudy's college bestie is a major colorist and doesn't let Dijonay in after straight up trying to humiliate her and doing a paper bag test on all the girls.
First thing off the bat. I think this should've been an episode where Dijonay's parents finally get involved in the plot as Dijonay's parents are BOTH dark skinned. It could've added more nuance and perspective i the than Trudy briefly taking a moment to realize she's light-skinned and being the one to talk to Dijonay about being proud of her skin color over her own parents.
The episode goes on, Penny has an anti-paperbag pageant show where all skin tones and genders can participate.
Personally here, this could've been an opportunity to introduce more side characters, but all they do is add Michael into the mix of girls and that's it...no other gender is there aside for just Michael.
And the episode rushes through fast. The colorist woman suddenly flips the script and is no longer colorist and is forgiven and they all celebrate? It could've given a more realistic approach but I notice a theme where they try to end all the episodes I've watched so far happily ever after.
The next episode should've been the two parter cause dude....KG was shafted to the sidelines..... KG wanted to find his birth mother but those records were redacted. It could've introduced drama and nuance and explanation of the multiple reasons the records could've been redacted.
But a big thing before this is, I think most of us assumed KG and Maya were bio siblings in some way even if just half???? But now all of a sudden they aren't???? It would've been interacting for them both to have had the same birth fathers but different mothers or same mother but different father and add more of an interesting plot line to the story.
But the plot jus goes oh well, his are redacted but Maya's weren't. And they proceed to focus mainly on Maya even though she had no interest in finding her mother in the first place. She's forced into meeting with the woman by her friends who are being pushy and I wish something was said about how they had no place in forcing her to meet her after finding out who her mom was.
The episode just ends with no explanation of wtf happened with the moms talk show or the red flag behavior of her being nasty to her assistant and calling that assistant a peasant and switching to acting nice when her kid was there. KG and his mom stuff was never addressed at all and they just forgive and have a happy hug at the end.
The next episode, episode 5, is probably the worst one by far. It completely fladerizes everyone's characters. The boys in the show are all suddenly incels when their characters were NEVER like that. Not to mention, the episode itself is super outdated, like it's giving the same energy as that Gamergate episode of SVU. The episode seems to throw out all critical info from the og series and movie like how Zoey is supposed to be a good dancer and how Penny was literally on the football team so it shouldn't be a surprise that she plays video games and is good at them.
The episode ends with a girl revealed to be the winner after taking off her mask thing in the gamer tournament against boys having tantrums and shouting out Penny for the girls and whatnot and having Penny join her in holding the trophy with her friends and for some reason Michael is there again which caused me to literally be like
Episode 5?
Episode 6 was meh....it would've been interesting to ACTUALLY see everyone in college rather than whatever all that was.
Episode 7, I got nothing to say but the song was actually fire and Asian rappers really ARE overlooked. There deadass is not a singular mainstream Asian rapper, quite literally there are more white mainstream rappers than Asians.
Still watching the last few episodes...
