Evening Shadows

Stood in front of this painting longer than I expected. Something about the quiet reflections and soft shadows made everything else feel still.

This painting is over a hundred years old, yet the reflections in the water still feel alive. No wonder it became one of Australia’s most iconic landscapes.

Painted in the 1800s and still powerful enough to stop people in their tracks. The silence in this scene feels unreal.

Between the Pages

Life as a host on a cruise ship means living by the clock, but sometimes you have to fight for a moment of beauty.

On this particular day in Sydney, I only had a 2-hour break. Most of my crewmates stayed on the ship to sleep or rest, but I couldn't stay docked. Even though the train ride from the port was about 30–40 minutes each way, I decided to take the chance.

I raced to the State Library, and for a few precious minutes, I just stood there in the silence. Walking through these grand aisles felt like stepping into a movie. It’s a funny feeling—I spend my life moving across the ocean, but being surrounded by these thousands of "still" stories felt so grounding.

I was constantly checking my watch, but it was 100% worth the rush. Sometimes you have to hustle just to find a moment of peace and inspiration.

I actually managed to squeeze in a quick museum visit right after this before sprinting back to the ship! I’ll share those photos in my next post. 🏛️

I almost forgot the name of this place, but I’ll never forget how it felt to walk through it. This is Port Arthur in Australia. It’s one of the most historic spots here, and standing among these old brick ruins really puts things into perspective.

Working on a ship, I’m always moving, always looking at the next horizon. But being here felt like a moment to just stop and breathe. There’s so much history in these walls, stories of people who were sent here long ago, and now, it’s a place of such quiet beauty.

It felt like the perfect spot to start this blog. A real 'Port of Call' to kick things off. I’m excited to share more of these moments with you all not just the pretty views, but the thoughts that come with them.
