I don’t usually save (let alone share) my process, but this piece turned out to be pretty interesting (same with the previous one based on Exorcist, though for that one I only kept some sketch ideas, not the full thing), so I figured I’d make a sort of “step-by-step” breakdown of each stage.

It took me a while because I was busy with final exams and defending my thesis — and then I needed some time to recover from all that chaos.

In the film, Merab Ninidze's character mentions he wants to become a cowboy (it's a funny line in context) and naturally I thought of your incredible cowboy Sabbadin art. I pointed out to the others in the chat saying "did you guys see that gorgeous art???" and some people were saying "yesssss it was incredible".

And I haven’t seen The Courier yet but—WAIT, DID HE ACTUALLY SAY THAT??? Now I definitely need to watch the movie.

As for the AU —

Giulio is my absolute favorite character there (well, and Joseph too, because I have a thing for bad boys....). If it weren’t for my lack of free time, I’d draw him even more!

But you’ve inspired me — I did a few sketches!

I think Tremblay is underused as a villain. Especially if you draw on the novel and he was trusted with money that was supposed to be for congregations in need. He stole money and bribed other Cardinals for power! He repeatedly lies to and tries to emotionally manipulate Lawrence to protect himself, perfectly happy to smear Janusz on the way. We literally never hear of what positions he even holds but he clearly has no principles. He could be a really good foil for Benitez, who cares fully about people over power or appearance. If it could lead to him having power, it could be really easy to connect him to all sorts of further shady behavior in an au. And if he did become pope he'd probably want to bury anything that might raise suspicion of him.
