Welcome to PTP Hellscape, a fan made spinoff series based on the anime, Popee The Performer and our dearly departed never-to-be spinoff, Phaeton and Me.

This series follows the circus a few months after the episode "FACE", and carries on as the characters grow older and change. They will have to overcome obstacles and interpersonal conflicts that arise within an extremely traumatic environment, and learn how to survive, and eventually thrive, together.

If you are looking for a comic about trauma, mental illness, grief, shame, acceptance, love and change then I suggest you stick around!

Even if I do enjoy the aspect of shipping Popee and Kedamono (REMEMBER, I SEE THEM AS CLOSE IN AGE, EITHER BORN IN THE SAME YEAR OR ONE YEAR APART. THE AGEGAP SEEN THROUGH THE LENS OF THE SHOW/CHINCHIKURIN MAKES ME UNCOMFORTABLE. KEDAMONO IS ALSO A FURRY/YOKAI WITH A HUMANOID INTELLIGENCE), the Phaeton & Me interpretation specifically focuses only on platonic and familial dynamics. The show itself never focused on romance, but on love that was desperately craved yet never received. The vision of this love was warped beyond recognition because how can one perceive love if they never experienced it ? If they never got it as a child?

Platonic and parental love are as important, if not more important than romantic love to me. If the show puts an emphasis on these two forms of love, then that is exactly what I will approach. My self indulgent doodles will never overshadow these aspects, and I want to make it known that I like Popeemono because I deeply see myself as both of them. They are two stubborn forces that want to survive so much, but also crave pain so badly. Overwhelming self hate and self idolization in order to survive.

Performance and Masking mean Love. Attention.

Performance and Masking mean Hate. Suffering.

Two sides of the same coin, the sun and the moon, the rabbit and the wolf. The thrill and suffering of being completely alone with someone that is You, even if there are differences. Besides, I'd rather establish first and foremost that they have to work on themselves in order to even consider including romantic undertones. They are both severely mentally ill and allegories for neurodivergency, even if the Masudas didn't intend for that to happen. I feel deeply seen as a person with diagnosed BPD, OCD and autism, and even without taking these aspects into consideration, the pain of having to behave as someone you aren't to survive is felt. Hell, I personally see them as queer representation too, their love falling into the queerplatonic category.

It's the pain of being different in a world of indifferent, judgemental and cruel people. Never fitting in even in the setting of a traditional circus. They're freaks. They're too much and too little, too violent and too cowardly.

have you watched the amazing digital circus? i haven't seen a single ptp fan that didn't absolutely adore tadc as well. If you watched it and didn't like it tho, it's totally fair, but if you didn't i highly recommend it! i feel like you would really like it <:)

OH I DID AND I LIKE IT!!! I wouldn't say that I'm a huge fan of it, especially if I compare my love for it with the love I have for PTP, but I still enjoy the topics it tackles and the overall environment it depicts! There's a lot of heart and soul put into it and it shows!!! Can't help but appreciate that :3 The characters are rather morally grey too which I adore, they are REAL PEOPLE (as in regular people you'd come across in the real world) despite the way they look. The show really looks at the argument "it's not that deep" and proves it wrong.

While it was inspired by PTP, it still is its own thing, and a rather monumental one at that in terms of indie animation, while also not falling flat in what it has to say! It's so charming :3

I've been working on a Popee the Performer animation project that's supposed to be a continuation of the show's events, while also serving as a prologue to the real meat of what I have in store: an interpretation of Phaeton & Me! I've been waiting for years for the manga to be released, so my heart inevitably broke when I heard of its cancellation. I decided to take it upon myself and put the pieces left of it together!

The prologue will be around 10-11 minutes, and while I did initially want to share the fully finished thing on the 2nd of January, the state the project is in makes it impossible to do so. Due to its length and overall being a really ambitious piece of work, I don't know when I'll finish it, but it will be posted on my YouTube channel present on this blog
