Sad but good news.....
Hello darling donors, as you can see it’s been rather quiet on the Zine Museum front and the reason for it is because I am no longer able to continue with the dream of a traveling zine library.
The collection has been growing ever since it started and was becoming more difficult to cart about and take care of. I was feeling so bad for the zines and all their makers, they were boxed up and hardly seeing the light of day anymore so I made a big decision......the decision to pass the collection on....
I am absolutely super excited to announce that the Zine Museum has been donated to Massey University Library in Wellington, New Zealand! This Uni delivers a few courses that involve zine making and the library had the collection on display for a few weeks last year (scroll down to find the old posts about it).
Here’s what Lauren from the library had to say when I asked if they would like to take the museum on:
“I am trying SO HARD not to all-caps this entire email. /deep calming breaths/ Okay, okay. Okay. Okay. That's a super-amazing, beautiful and generous offer. FLIP!! I'd love love LOVE to say yes straight away, but I have to do some checking at work tomorrow to make sure that we have space and proper storage for this amazing gift”
That was her awesome informal response. After getting the go ahead from her boss Lauren then sent me this fancy pants paragraph for the blog:
"Massey University's Toi Rawhauranga/College of Creative Arts has a growing number of staff and students who are super-keen zinesters. On staff, there's Kerry Ann Lee (Red Letter zine distro/Permanent Vacation and other titles) and Bryce Galloway (Incredibly Hot Sex with Hideous People), and several courses which use and encourage the making of zines (like the photography course). These courses have seen a wonderful growth in recent years - we're excited to be part of a zine boom! Zines don't just support research and teaching for the College though! They also help bring our communities together. Last year, Murtle generously supported the Orientation Week venture Zine Lab, which we ran here at Te Putanga ki te Ao Matauranga/Massey University Library, so we're very honoured to give a permanent home to this wonderful collection."
So there you have it beautiful zine makers and donors! Lauren and her team are in the process of sorting the zines out and would like to have an official launch when its all ready and good to go. I will get many snaps as soon as I can.
I have a couple more zine donations to post here and then sadly that’s it from me. I have had an absolute blast with this project and have been amazed by the incredible enthusiasm and generosity of people from all over the world.
If you are unhappy with this change of direction and would like your zine donation returned to you, please let me know by email:
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Loads of love and well wishes
Murtle xxx
