As you may know, YouTube recently changed the comment system. The changes include a longer character limit, integration with Google+, filtering “meaningful conversations” so they appear in the top comments section, and allowing links to be posted.

Before, links were not able to be posted in a comment section, but the recent update now permits it.

Some people have posted comments like these, describing beneficial results for others when clicking the link. Other examples of these are spam comments promising the clicker to make thousands from home. Easily the most common one is a comment describing how the negatively received new comments section will be removed.

However, this link leads to a screamer. For those of you who are luckily unaware, a screamer is a webpage dedicated on scaring the viewer The screamer in this case features a popular horror icon “Jeff the Killer” quickly flashing between positive and negative colour schemes, accompanied with a loud scream like sound being played very loudly over your speakers.

This can be EXTREMELY dangerous for someone with epilepsy, someone with a weak heart or someone with anxiety. After I unfortunately viewed it, I became extremely nervous and began crying, and was unable to return to a stable state for thirty minutes. To be completely honest, I was even scared to return to my computer after.

PLEASE, if you view a comment like this on YouTube, click the drop down menu, report it for spam. This will send a message to staff, and the comment should be removed.

In order to help you stay safe when browsing, when clicking links on video, check to see if there are replies. On this particular comment, there were over 100 replies, all of them being negative, one even claiming that his brother was sent to the hospital. Only click a link on a video if you are 100% CERTAIN like this link is safe.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN BROWSING YOUTUBE AND ITS COMMENT SECTION.

If you have a program like AdBlock, you can use it to note to yourself (and to the program) that this particular link is dangerous, and you can have it blanked out so that you don’t accidentally click on it. If you have it on an extension in Chrome, click on its icon, go to ‘Block an Ad on this page’, and follow the instructions. I hope that helps.
