Who would propose, Chidi or Eleanor?

Well now, it depends. To be honest, I don’t think they’ve gotten to the proposal stage very often - they’re usually rebooted very soon after admitting their feelings. But there have been some attempts where it happened….

Like the time they’d been together for at least a year and were lounging around the house reading and talking about ethics and Eleanor remembered Epictetus’s theory on stoicism before Chidi and she was so bouncy and excited and pleased with herself that Chidi heard himself murmur ‘marry me’ before he even realized what he was doing and Eleanor froze and just stared at him for a moment before tackling him onto the couch and whispering yes again and again between kisses

Or the time Eleanor tried to be romantic and set candles all along the dock on the lake and asked Chidi to meet her there right after sundown but he was late she made it seem like a special occasion and he couldn’t decide whether to bring wine or champagne. he ended up bringing shrimp cocktail and she was annoyingly nervous because she’d been carrying the ring around for a week trying to find the right time and Chidi finally got there but then someone cough cough Michael made it rain and the whole thing was ruined and Chidi can’t figure out why Eleanor is so upset over it and finally she just shouts ‘because I was gonna propose you nerd!’ and he ducks his head down and he’s laughing. They’re standing drenched on a dock in the middle of a storm and her whole plan is ruined and he’s laughing. And she’s about to storm off until Chidi pulls out a ring box of his own and it turns out he’d been carrying it around for a month trying to find the right time to ask her and then they’re both laughing and they end up asking each other on the middle of the dock in the pouring rain and it’s the most perfect thing either of them could have imagined

Or the time that technically could happen in s3 my version of s3 at least where Chidi gets a note from Eleanor to meet her in the university library and he thinks she needs him to clarify an theory or reach one of the books on the top shelf for her but he gets there and the entire place is deserted and Eleanor is waiting with a picnic dinner indoors - she learned from the last time even if she can’t remember it in the Ethics section but she seems nervous and jittery the whole time and when they’re finished she pulls something from under the corner of the blanket and launches into this speech about how she hates being sappy and talking about her feelings but she hates it a lot less when she’s doing it with Chidi and how grateful she is that he saw some good in her and stuck with her through all of her pushback and bad behavior and how she’s never had someone like him in her life; someone she can trust and depend on and open herself up to and who loves her despite all of her flaws and she’s so lucky that he’s that person for her and the next thing Chidi knows she’s kneeling in front of him and she’s holding a ring and he can’t say yes fast enough and maybe they’re both crying a little but they’re so happy and thankful that they have each other and they almost definitely bang on the picnic blanket thank god the university thinks the Ethics section is too boring for a security camera
