Have you read Runaway Max? That really adds a whole lot more to character and gives a better understanding on her actions throughout season 2 & 3.

i   have   ,   and   i   really   did   like   it   …   it   went   through   the   events   of   season   two   ,   and   previous   events   through   max ‘ s   pov   .   how   she   comes   to   have   a   better   relationship   with   femininity   ,   as   shown   in   season   three   ,   which   i   really   appreciate   and   am   very   on   board   with  .   and   yes   ,   it   does   give   us   a   better   understanding   on   max   as   a   character   —-   so   thank   you   ,   brenna   yovanoff   .

however   ,   while   runaway   max   is   recognized   as   a   “  canon   companion   “   —-   as   demonstrated   on   season   three   by   ,   like   the   weird   shift   on   her   relationship   and   thoughts   regarding   billy   —   how   he   goes   from   being   her   literal   abuser   ,   to   just   her   “  gross   older   brother  “  ,    the   billy   flashback   from   season   three   ,   which   shows   that   both   max   and   susan   are   introduced   into   his   life   pretty   early   on   ,   and   some   other   finer   details   on   the   characterization   (   *   my   personal   opinion   )  ,   just   shows   that   the   duffers   really   did   not   take   it   into    consideration   at   all   . . .   

putting   season   two   ,   and   season   three   side   by   side   it   almost   feels   like   they   had   set   up   these   characters   for   something   else   and   then   they   scraped   it   ,   in   order   to   give   billy   ,   this   former   stephen   king   -   esque   villain   they   had   set   up   ,   a   new   arc   to   culminate   in   “  redemption  “   (   *   again   ,   this   is   my   personal   opinion   ,   but   i   do   believe   probably   it   was   mostly   to   please   billy   stans   )   —   and   ended   up   not   really   knowing   what   to   do   with   max   .

and   even   with   this   allegedly   new   plot   they   wrote   out   ,   they   could ‘ ve   done   more   to   have   it   make   more   sense   ?   —   so   ?    yeah   …   it   just   all   kinda   feels   ,   to   me   at   least  —   pretty   lazy   and   lousy   .   on   the   suffer   brothers   behalf   on   this   aspect   .

hi   anon   ,   i   wrote   extensively   about   how   they   use   her   as    a    plot    device    a   while   ago   here   ,   and   as   the   morphing   of   her   personality   to   accomodate   the   plot   —-   well   ,   it  ‘  s   all   over   season   three   .   i ‘ m   working   on   a   post   on   grief   that   is   gonna   touch   on   it   but   if   you   want   i   can   write   another   one   more   focused   on   that
