The Boys spoiler warning
girl who never got to fight back x girl who never got to be vulnerable
Since the core theme of Deltarune seems to be fantasy and escapism as represented by the dark worlds, I think it's likely that the final conflict of the game will be about letting go of fantasy vs fully embracing it. Dess takes an interesting position in this conflict, as she's a character that somehow got lost in the darkness, like how some people get so lost in their fantasy that they barely interact with the real world anymore.
So... What if the game ends by giving you the choice to let Dess' friends and family reunite with her, but at the cost of letting the Roaring happen and letting Hometown drown in darkness? Alternatively, you could prevent the roaring, but only by closing the Grand Fountain to stop the spread of darkness represented by the Titans before it reaches the light world. This would mean that Kris and Susie have to say goodbye to their darkner friends forever and Noelle will never see Dess again. I think that's an interesting basis for a moral conflict that's a little more complicated than anything we're given in Undertale because there's no obvious right or wrong choice.
...however. There's also Susie, a character who's basically written to defy the prophecy and break false binaries. I think if anyone is going to solve the dilemma at the core of Deltarune and allow us to have the perfect ending where everyone is saved, it's her. Of course it's possible that Deltarune will go for something more bittersweet than Undertale's pacifist ending and will only let us save Dess at a cost that most people aren't willing to accept. There's certainly something to be said for the beauty of imperfect endings and the value of the lesson that you can't have everything you wanted. But I still hold out hope that there's a way to break the prophecy and, if necessary, the game itself to give these characters the happy ending we want for them.
"If Dess could be saved it would be anticlimactic because it means her family would have grieved for nothing." Do y'all hear yourselves.
I might start shipping Kralsei out of nothing but defiance.
Thing I drew for my friend @elfscissoring of a scene from its fic root rot which is so good and you should all go read it NOW!!!! 🫵🫵🫵
I can't wait for the Amazing Digital Circus episode 9, which is probably going to be a 30-minute-long group sex scene between all the characters now that the censors are gone.
It's been implied that reloading in Undertale, for whatever reason, affects only the underground, while time continues normally outside of it. Since in Deltarune reloading is (or alt least, according to Toby's preferences, should be) only possible in dark worlds, it's possible that likewise, one determined individual reloading doesn't affect the entire universe, but only the dark world they happen to be in.
If this is true, it raises the question: What happens when a lightner only enters a dark world after someone else made their save spot? What if that someone reloads to a point where said lightner wasn't in the dark world yet? If reloads don't affect the light world, then it doesn't return them to where they were at the time, so are they just..... erased from existence? Is that what happened to Dess during a dark world adventure with Kris and Asriel? Did Kris reload to their first save file, which didn't include Dess in the dark world, and it made her glitch out of reality and into the depths?
The Deltarune we play is actually Gaster's Halloween Hack of the original game.
Congrats on a webcomic well finished! (yes, I know it actually finished over a month ago. Sorry, I was dealing with some serious art block. Just pretend I posted this back then.)
Anyway, if you still haven't read @akanemnon's Twin Runes, what are you even doing? And if you have read it, uhhhh now is the perfect time to just read it again. It's a rarity these days that a webcomic actually gets finished, and an even rarer rarity if it gets a satisfying ending.
New Contrapoints video was great and I'm definitely gonna watch it again, but for now I'm just basking in the pleasure of someone giving the tiniest bit of validation to my lifelong deep, visceral, passionate hatred of Dante Aligheri.
Sooooo incredibly glad that Noelle Knight is slowly getting some traction in the fandom. Don't get me wrong, I have some serious doubts about it being canon myself, and if she is the Knight, she obviously not quite being herself. (Something something shadow crystals mind control Carol manipluating her to find her missing other daughter uhhhh the weird route is actually about making her strong enough to break free from whatever is controlling her.) But just imagine the dramatic potential. Susie's reaction when she finds out that not only is Kris controlled by the Soul and they've conspired with the Knight against her all along, but also the Knight is the cute girl in her class she kinda likes? Her having to fight Noelle, trying to save her from bringing about the roaring?? FAILING to save her???
This is pure gold. I can't believe there isn't more fanart or fanfiction exploring this.
I know by now everyone has pointed out that "Sans remembers your genocides" is false, but while he may not remember full resets, he does seem to remember reloads. I always thought that there must be more than just good intuition to the fact that he can tell exactly how many times you've killed him so far. He seems to intentionally play coy with explaining how exactly he knows stuff like that. Being able to remember reloads is tied to how much Determination you have - after all, that's the reason why Flowey remembers everything you did. So if Sans remembers them, could that be a hint that he also has Determination? After all, it's heavily hinted that he is from another universe, possibly the Deltarune world. And Queen says that Determination is something that all lightners in that world naturally possess.
this was supposed to be for valentines whatever!! go my sweetieful krusielle!!! ❤️
Some random theorizing on Deltarune:
The original Fun Gang: Dess, Asriel and Seam
Beings that are somehow based on these characters, who still have their own identity: The Knight, Ralsei and FRIEND
The current Fun Gang: Kris, Susie and Ralsei
Who was actaully supposed to be the three Heroes of the Prophecy: The Vessel (the cage), Noelle (the girl) and Gaster (the prince of the dark)
