PLEASE CALL YOUR REPS AND TELL THEM TO VOTE NO ON H.R. 7661, THE TRANSPHOBIC NATIONAL BOOK BAN BILL!
House Republicans have introduced a bill to effectively grant the federal government decision-making power over what books make it into the library. Misleadingly called the "Stop the Sexualization of Children Act," H.R. 7661 is a national-level book banning bill that would ban any book that, according to the bill's language, "(ii) involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism." This means any book about a trans person or the trans experience would be banned from every public school in the United States. You can read the full text here. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Education and Workforce. If you are represented by one of the members of this committee listed below, they need to hear from you. Rep. Kevin Kiley, California (CA-3) (Chair) - entering vulnerable election cycle Rep. Mary E. Miller, Illinois (Vice Chair) Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson, Pennsylvania Rep. Burgess Owens, Utah Rep. Michael A. Rulli, Ohio Rep. James C. Moylan, Guam - entering vulnerable election cycle Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, Pennsylvania - entering vulnerable election cycle Rep. Mark Harris, North Carolina Rep. Mark B. Messmer, Indiana Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, Oregon, Ranking Member Rep. Jahana Hayes, Connecticut Rep. Summer L. Lee, Pennsylvania Rep. John W. Mannion, New York Rep. Frederica S. Wilson, Florida Rep. Alma S. Adams, North Carolina Rep. Adelita Grijalva, Arizona Call your reps. Tell them they must oppose this bill at every turn. It is egregiously unconstitutional, targets ideas based on ideological disapproval, and misleads parents and the public about the content of children's books. It does nothing to protect kids and will badly harm education. It will tie school material funding into knots and hurt anyone who is a library materials vendor, regardless of content. If you are a bookseller, librarian, or author, tell them your livelihood depends on the next generation of readers. If you are a supporter of free speech, please call your reps and tell them to vote no on HR 7661! Thank you to @authorsagainstbookbans for the graphics and text in the four blue slides.

PRINTED!!!
so. not to doxx myself (i've talked about this here before though) but i live in Kansas. and my license was just revoked very suddenly and immediately because i'm trans and had changed my gender marker.
so now i cannot legally drive or vote until/unless i let them force me to carry around a card that misgenders me and outs me as trans, because i certainly don't look female anymore.
so hey if you have the means and want to help with any of this, please consider donating to the ACLU of Kansas because they are at least going to try to do something to push back against this, and i'm such a panicky wreck that the only thing i can do to get through my immediate gut reaction to having my license revoked tonight (i cannot stress enough that i received the letter today saying that my license is no longer valid tomorrow) is focus on the fact that there's at least one entity trying to protect me and my fellow trans kansans.
tutorial: my awesome airbrush dither image technique!!!
ingredients:
krita to draw (or your program of choice)
dither it! to dither
1) create canvas
something not too small + preferably an easy number for easy math, i used 1000 x 1000 pixels
we will be shrinking + growing the image so the final size can be different if you wish
make the background layer black
add new layer(s) on top for drawing
2) draw your design in grayscale
use the airbrush to create lots of gradation, since that's the part that will get dithered
i find it easiest to add and subtract value using white brush + eraser brush, rather than white brush + black brush
toggle eraser mode: shift + z
export as PNG!
OPTIONAL: for a funkier look, add a gradient map to swap some of the light and dark values
"new layer" button dropdown -> filter layer -> map -> gradient map
3) dither it!
image will import at original size with a ton of colors in the palette
to increase pixelly-ness, reduce both image and palette size, i used 250 x 250 pixels and 4 colors
play with colors and settings to your liking
export!
4) scale image back up for better visibility
in krita, open dithered image as new document
image -> scale image to new size (ctrl + alt + i)
use a multiplier like 200%, 300%, 400%, etc. to ensure pixels stay square, i used 200% aka 500 x 500 pixels
IMPORTANT: make sure the "filter" is set to "nearest neighbor", otherwise the sharp edges will become blurry
5) optional: finishing touches
erase or move stray pixels (best done before scaling up, to preserve pixel grid)
color balance: "new layer" button dropdown -> filter layer -> adjust -> color balance
gradient map: "new layer" button dropdown -> filter layer -> map -> gradient map
anything you want!!!
6) done!
export that PNG and now you have an awesome image!!! thanks for reading! B^)
bonus: seamless patterns
krita has a great feature for this, it's how i make tiled backgrounds
view -> wrap around mode (shift + w)
use this while drawing during step 2!
then at the start of step 4 before scaling up, you can use it to check for misplaced pixels around the edges or anything that creates a "seam"
