so. not to doxx myself (i've talked about this here before though) but i live in Kansas. and my license was just revoked very suddenly and immediately because i'm trans and had changed my gender marker.

so now i cannot legally drive or vote until/unless i let them force me to carry around a card that misgenders me and outs me as trans, because i certainly don't look female anymore.

so hey if you have the means and want to help with any of this, please consider donating to the ACLU of Kansas because they are at least going to try to do something to push back against this, and i'm such a panicky wreck that the only thing i can do to get through my immediate gut reaction to having my license revoked tonight (i cannot stress enough that i received the letter today saying that my license is no longer valid tomorrow) is focus on the fact that there's at least one entity trying to protect me and my fellow trans kansans.

I have an update!

The ACLU has a hearing today which will hopefully put a pause on enforcement of SB 244, which should hopefully reverse the revocation of licenses that have not already been surrendered.

UPDATE:

the hearing is technically ongoing, and we won't have a decision until this coming Tuesday (March 10th, 2026) on whether or not SB-244 will be paused while the ACLU lawsuit against it is ongoing.

What we do know is that Kris Kobach (that slimy greaseball shitstain of a human, I fucking hate him and I've hated him for years) has conceded that the state might delay enforcing the law until March 26th, which means no fines for using the "wrong" bathroom and licenses will not be actually revoked until then either. This does not mean that that's what's happening, just what might happen.

In the meantime, if you are a trans Kansan and have not yet surrendered your license (like me), check the Kansas Department of Revenue's Driver's License Status Check (located here: https://www.kdor.ks.gov/Apps/DLStatus/login.aspx ) to see whether or not your license is still valid. Supposedly, none of them have actually been revoked yet in the system, because there are possible non-trans reasons for gender markers to have been changed. Supposedly.

As a professional hand engraver, when it comes to old crafts like these, its way more accessible to get started with the basics than you'd expect. Back in the day good steel was expensive so trying something like hand engraving was expensive and difficult to justify. But now you can can just buy a good quality handpush graver online for less than a fancy coffee. Just think, for under a hundred quid you could get all the kit you need to get started with fucking up coins and stabbing yourself repeatedly!!!

Don't threaten to do it, go research it, and actually give it a go!!! Most of the books for old crafts are out of copyright. Even if you don't get a job at whatever you try, or hell, even of you don't become in any way good at it, just learning and trying something new is good for you, and it gives you a greater understanding and appreciation for things.

Fuck AI? Good. I agree. Now fucking do something about it. Return to doing human hand crafted things as an act of rebellion! Start knitting, start wood carving, start engraving, whatever the fuck. But most importantly, remember you don't need to be making money doing it to make it worth doing.

Do you need an almost free way to start getting into old trade crafts and arts, but you're a beginner?

Try Paper Sloyd . This is one free option, but you can search for other public domain books. You need paper or thin cardboard (cereal boxes!), a ruler, scissors, a pencil. If you work through all the activities in a paper sloyd course, you're going to improve your fine motor skills, get better at measuring and marking, develop your ability to follow older/written instructions in other public domain crafts and trades books.

You can extinguish tear gas canisters!

Wearing gloves, submerge the canister in a wide-mouthed water jug containing baking soda, dish soap, and/or vegetable oil—3 tablespoons of each per liter of water.

Never seal a bottle containing an active tear gas canister—you don't want it to explode.

There are at least five skulls and sooooooooo many mandibles and lots of vertebrae. Also lots and lots of ribs.

Basically I've soaked the pellets in a bleach solution to break them up and sanitize them then skimmed off a lot of the fur and assorted gunk and picked out the biggest bones and put them in water to finish soaking off the fur and now I've got a ton of itty bitty bones to pick out of the remaining sludge.

A couple more skulls (toothpick for scale) and the last of the bones I'm going to sort through. The shallow glass container has the mostly-de-furred skulls in soapy water, the taller jar has a ton of small bones in plain water just soaking the gunk off.
