My biggest issue with modern grindcore/noiscore where they put an anime girl on the cover with a hammer and sickle is that I know they’re trying to be anti music, but damn most of these artists are so ass.

The DIY ethos of the thing you make not having to be good has gone from simply being a low barrier to entry to instead leading to lazy musicians who only exist on the internet churning out slop for other punks who only exist on the internet. What separates the parody of bands like sore throat from these modern bands is the fact that they existed within the scene and made fun of its conventions whilst these modern bands try to parody the shitty joke bands, creating nothing but a crude approximation. The joke has been lost on them.

the present compulsion to sort basically any woman-directed punk band into riot grrrl strikes me as regressive for the same reasons gender segregation always is. it's pretty clearly being done by people who don't understand how absolutely integral women have always been to punk rock and it's becoming corrupt into a term that means "punk rock for girls"
