Un besito
Completely relatable for Yoshiki to give in to his attachment to the not-Hikaru so early on. If I was an isolated, closeted gay teenager who’d lost my best friend (who I was in love with), and the eldritch horror that replaced him came back validating my feelings every second of every day, telling me how much he loved and appreciated me, touching me constantly, giving me honest, unfiltered declarations of devotion?? Shit, I’d fold too
"even if somethin' inside of me breaks"
“your friend is dead, and their corpse is inhabited by something only you can see for what it truly is" is already good horror. but "you begin to love the thing that wears their face"? the blasphemy of it. terror turning into desire. grief turning into longing. being enticed by what should repel you. it twists the knife deeper, because the horror is not based on deception anymore. the fear comes from recognizing the monster in its raw form and finding beauty there. you're not clinging to scraps of your friend, you're surrendering to something other, something wrong, and loving it. you're not holding onto a ghost of the past, it’s the monster itself that you choose
i dont actually want hikaru and yoshiki to kiss btw. like they have done that and more already its just that its expressed through the extremely well made repesentation of the fantasies and urges of a closeted teenager who does not have the ability, resources or awareness to not layer their sexuality behind metaphors and narrative foils. its not sex im sticking my hand in his chest. it feels like chicken, nothing else. the hole doesnt looks like anything else. im patting his hair thats not weird. he compared it to what it felt like when i stuck my hand in but that doesnt mean anything. it doesnt mean anything that i keep agressively petting his hair afterthefact. its all totally normal and nonsexual.
He’s innocent

The Kelpie by Herbert James Draper
ultimately the truth about frankenstein is that we are all grotesque amalgamations of the best and worst parts of everyone who came before us. and sometimes the people who are supposed to love us because of and in spite of this will not. and we can kill them with hammers for that. and i think that’s beautiful
my brother in christ frankenstein is the title of the book
COUNTERPOINT
well i can’t argue with that one
Ah yes, Mary Shelley’s monster.
no mary shelley is the name of the monster not the doctor
common misconception! mary shelley's monster was actually lord byron
if you go on tumblr dot com and say some variation of "they should have [thing that clearly exists] BUT [twist that's crucial for the post to make sense]" you get a bunch of responses like "this already exists, it's called [the thing, without the twist]" and "this entirely new concept intrigues me, but let's go one step further by completely cancelling out the twist."
I don't know what's worse between that and the people the just go "hear me out: take on [well established cornerstone of a genre] BUT! [twist that was already the whole point of the original].
They should do Alien but it's about the horror of unwanted pregnancy
There's also a third category of responses that are like "this already exist, it's called [not even the thing upon which the twist was proposed]".
(Some of the really ambitious ones go as far as to insist that the thing with the twist already exists, then name a piece of media which is in fact the exact opposite of both the thing and the twist, which is actually kind of fascinating in a "taking a true-or-false exam and getting every answer wrong" kind of way.)
i dont know why but part of me is really artistically resonating with this horrible wax statue of one of the thieves from home alone. kind of post punk
