UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid following Saturday’s Champions League final.

Alonso, suspended for accumulation, left his seat to join a goal celebration on the touchline. He has been cited for a “breach of general principles of conduct”.

The club is also being charged for improper conduct (at least five yellow cards) and for setting off fireworks. Disciplinary hearings will be held on July 17. Alonso could face suspension in next season’s competition.

Update (July 17) - He is suspended for August 12’s Super Cup.

Update (August 6) - A delegation is being sent to Nyon to make a last appeal to the UEFA Appeals Body. The club believes the sanction should either result in a fine or have the ban enforced in the competition the offense occured. A decision will come either Thursday or Friday.
