I believe most people “believe” they have a clear understanding and awareness of their own inner emotional experience. It is very discomforting to believe we are often blind to our own experience. There is a great multitude of people who are “not aware” that they are “not aware.” Unfortunately being blind to our own inner emotional drives is a dangerous way to live. From this blindness, we become subjects to our own emotions. The emotions then completely rule and dictate their thoughts and behaviors, while they deceptively believe that they are the master of their ships and their misfortunes are because they are a victim of all circumstances which are beyond their control. Around and around they go, in their blindness of their own behaviors, and emotions, continually experiencing the same pain, and disappointments over and over again. There is a term called confabulation. It refers to our minds’ ability to first experience something then to create a story post fact to fit the experience into the framework we use to structure our understanding of the world. The confabulations we make allows us to be lost in our own deceptions. If we see a partner as “selfish” then everything they do will be seen through this lens. If I believe I am courageous, then I may distort or bury any experience which would suggest I am otherwise. Bringing our inner experience of living into clearer vision allows us to catch ourselves in these confabulations. I personally catch my own confabulations on a regular basis. I see a confabulation, I label it as such, and then I can see through it. Consciously recognizing the emotional reactions we feel inside, analyzing the subconscious beliefs which are provoking the emotion, and consciously challenging those beliefs which are not logical or are clearly detrimental to our well-being is the path to escaping repeating the same patterns in our lives which hold us hostage and prevent us from becoming who we want to be and living the life we want. Slow down, take time to recognize what you are experiencing in life and begin the process of great growth.

Former ancient temple ruins in Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. The intricately carved bottom stone is called the ‘Moonstone’ and the steps lead to a still intact, sitting Buddha.
Right the fuck on though.
After a while you learn the subtle difference Between holding a hand and chaining a soul, And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning And company doesn’t mean security. And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts And presents aren’t promises, And you begin to accept your defeats With your head up and your eyes open With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child, And you learn to build all your roads on today Because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight. After a while you learn… That even sunshine burns if you get too much. So you plant your garden and decorate your own soul, Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure… That you really are strong And you really do have worth… And you learn and learn… With every good-bye you learn.

“Each person’s life is like a mandala- a vast, limitless circle. We stand in the center of our own circle, and everything we see, hear and think forms the mandala of our life. We enter a room, and the room is our mandala. We get on the subway, and the subway car is our mandala, down to the teenager checking messages on her iPhone and the homeless man slumped in the corner. We go for a hike in the mountains, and everything as far as we can see is our mandala: the clouds, the trees, the snow on the peeks, even the rattlesnake coiled in the corner. We’re lying in a hospital bed, and the hospital is our mandala. We don’t set it up, we don’t get to choose what or who shows up in it. It is, As Chogyam Trungpa said, “the mandala that is never arranged but is always complete.” And we embrace it just as it is. Everything that shows up in your mandala is a vehicle for your awakening. From this point of view, awakening is right at your fingertips continually. There’s not a drop of rain or a pile of dog poop that appears in your life that isn’t the manifestation of enlightened energy, that isn’t a doorway to sacred world. But it’s up to you whether your life is a mandala of neurosis or a mandala of sanity.”

This week has been like something I probably could never describe. I do feel a need to record how pleased and full of gratitude I am for the series of events that took place in the course of just one week. Another turning point strikes, and I just wish I knew the exact, perfect, word for that distinct feeling of having the world in your hands while deeply wounded simultaneously. Some noteworthy mentions/words/lines:
"You have to be like an ant."
"Maybe means no"
"This is not a dictatorship."
"Your why"
"I didn't sign up for this."
"Razbliuto"
"Yin and yang"
"It doesn't work if you don't work."
"Who you are vs what you want"
"Valor"
"Balance"
"Tiempo al tiempo"
"The bus keeps moving."
"It's not that it's not for everybody, it's that not everybody's for it."
