this tweet has been fucking killing me
looking at the character like I hope he gets better. but first I hope he gets worse. I hope he hits rock bottom and realizes that you can be loved at your lowest because he is at his lowest and he is still loved.
never kill yourself. you have to fill your mutuals dash with shit they don't care about forever, okay?
apparently youre supposed to perform. they love it when you perform. but it has to be authentic. they hate it when it's not authentic. but you have to perform.
Do you want your handjob crazy hand style or master hand style
people tend to emphasise selfishness as a core trait of han sooyoung's characterization, myself included. but ☝️ we must do so in concert with omniscient reader's viewpoint's own definition of selfishness, which depicts self sacrifice as the greatest selfish act you can commit. both characters and narrative acknowledge kim dokja's sacrifice as him an extremely violent selfishness, ignoring the others wishes entirely to do what he thinks is best no matter the cost. self sacrifice comes from thinking you alone can solve everything, that you alone know best. han sooyoung also falls into this pitfall, attempting to or succeeding in sacrificing herself many times (trying to make an outer god pact for yoo sangah's soul, telling kim dokja to leave her behind in kaizenix, of course writing twsa for 13 years). this is a weakness all of the orv characters have as they all learn their horrible horrible habits from kim dokja.
perhaps where han sooyoungs selfishness feels different is that she is also willing to sacrifice other people to the extent of starting a fucking apocalypse. she considers others a worthy sacrifice as well, a choice the rest of kimcom struggle to make (although notably kim dokja sacrifices a fair few at the beginning of his journey). this is where her self-inflicted villainess role comes in. what always sticks out to me is that she alone calls out 49% and the false epilogue - shes willing to sacrifice 49% and the happiness they have with them for what she wants (her reader back), which no one else has been able to do. i think ultimately the biggest difference between kim dokja and han sooyoungs selfishness is that kim dokja sees himself as uniquely worthy of suffering and sacrifice, and so takes that path to get what he wants, whereas han sooyoung (although definitely with her own self worth issues) (although that would need to be a whole other post) is happy to enflict suffering on whoever needs to for her goals.
