Something has been bothering me for a while, and I thought I might as well bring it up.
So the original spell, "Spirit in the Ever After", goes like this:
To confer a dying land upon an offering, one shall meditate upon his/her name. (Phrase: Offering [Sachiko], we beg of you.)
Pleas must be spoken in silence a number of times equal to all transgressors plus the offering. (The phrase is thought rather than said, you can't chant aloud. The phrase must be chanted a number of times equal to the amount of people participating, plus one for the offering, i.e., Sachiko.)
An avatar for the offering must then be torn and split equally amongst the transgressors. (Pulling the paper doll apart)
If performed correctly, the offering's desired location shall become the land in which he/she dies. (The offering's, i.e., Sachiko's, desired location of death is now where she will die.)
The charm contradicts itself. In the first bullet, it claims the participant (in this case, Yoshie) will be "confering" (basically bestowing; assigning) a dying land to an offering (in this case, Sachiko). But in the last bullet, it claims "If performed correctly, the offering's desired location shall become the land in which he/she dies", which contradicts the first bullet! According to the first bullet, Yoshie, as the participant, is giving/assigning Sachiko's, as the the offering's, place of death. It has nothing to do with where Sachiko (the offering) desires to die. Given information in the games, I'm going assume the last bullet is incorrect.
That brings up my next object of confusion. Why would Yoshie want her daughter's school building to be her daughter's place of freaking death in first place? Like why would she want her daughter to die there? Does anyone remember when this was discussed in Blood Drive? I know it was, I just don't recall which chapter...
This is an actual question rather than confusion, but who did Yoshie do this ritual with? There has to be at least two participants, seeing as the doll must be pulled apart. It could not have been Sachiko herself, as she was the offering. So? Was it Makina, maybe?
Adding to my confusion, it would seem that, while they were completely unaware, Satoshi and co. (along with everyone who did the ritual) were attempting to bind Sachiko's soul (as she was the offering they chanted about) to a certain place of death. They did not succeed in assigning her a place of death for two reasons. A) They didn't have a place of death in mind, and B) They didn't chant a final time. So my question is, how does failing the ritual equal being teleported to the Nirvana/Heavenly Host? The original ritual (the one they are attempting to perform) speaks nothing of consequences. In fact, it seems more like a "you know you did it wrong when nothing happens, try again" spell. I know that Naho states that failing the ritual will invoke Sachiko's wrath, but that's simply impossible, it's another lie. The spell was not created about Sachiko, she just happened to be the offering this time. And if the spell it "assigning a place of death", the offering must usually be alive, as if they are already dead, they already have one.
Say Naho was telling the truth, that means to perform the charm incorrectly means to invoke the offering's wrath, the living offering would... what? Send you to the Nirvana (Heavenly Host yet to be attached) and kill you? Naho's information here is unsourced and is literally impossible.
So as of now, it is unexplained what the consequences of a Spirit in the Ever After ritual completed incorrectly are, exactly. This is more of an observation, but it's confusing nonetheless.
(Also please don't respond with something like "yeah Corpse Party sucks/isn't put together properly/etc. because that adds nothing to the discussion.)
