I just wanna start this post off by reiterating that I understand that it's silly, but I like to celebrate my fic wherever and however I can. I'm really proud of this thing, so the attention this fic is getting is like my child getting applause at the talent show (Btw, I have literally no frame of reference. I just see number get big, and my primate brain releases special chemicals).
More under the thing :)
It's so so so encouraging to see all the different kinds of impressions from the people that are connecting with it. Even the folks just dropping in to say that it looks interesting before they dive into it is special to me. Being able to share Fire Blight with people has genuinely been the most rewarding thing ever, and seeing something that I've created leave a tiny little impression on someone is so super cool to me.
I'd fully expected this fic to fly completely under the radar and for it to just stay in my head, but now we're almost a year later and it's been it's been seen by so many people, this beast of a fic has truly become my favorite thing that I've written so far.
Anyway, thanks for the support. Even my moots over here that are completely separate from the process of conceiving Fire Blight.
I'll be updating the fic later today, but in the mean time, here's an irl photo my myself doing a celebratory post, with my most special hat.

It's your bedtime. You're feeling delightfully tired after a long day, and you've just had a valuable creative period, as you watched the sun meet the horizon in your peripheral. Your bed is warm and your jammies sit just right on your gross little rat body. You're ready for bed...
OR SO YOU THOUGHT
Just as your head hits the pillow, you receive these strange visions of a ship not of your own. All of the fanart you've been passively enjoying on Tumblr.com invade your consciousness like an attack on your immune system. Your eyes spring open, but in the instance that it takes for your vision to readjust to the comfortable darkness of your room... the damage has already been done.
Due to a tie breaker (a singular vote from an unforeseen yuri beast), a decision has been reached. With choice follows action, and now I won't be shutting up about these two as I continue to work on the fic I had planned for them :)
As someone who slinks around the tags for Fear & Hunger (mainly for my favorite ships and characters), I see a lot of almost vitriolic hate towards Samarina as a ship, and I just wanted to talk about it a bit since I've had some time to sit and think about it.
More under the thing, I just didn't wanna clog up your feed with super long post.
Before I get into it, I'm a fic writer for this ship. That's not to say that my opinions are going to be a pillar of the wider shipping community, just that I'm inherently biased as my opinions are gonna be pretty strong, as there's a lot behind them. But that also means that I've spent a lot of time thinking about these two, and I feel like I have a real dog in this 'fight'.
I think I want to this start off with my own interpretation of why this ship is as controversial as it is (aside from the obvious): The internet is infamous for not handling grey areas with a whole lot of grace (especially moral grey areas), and that unfortunately extends to fandom spaces, where we're critiquing and appreciating art and media. This additionally extends to how we interpolate on different characters and dynamics.
In my opinion;
- usually with what I see in online shipping discourse, there is a box that ships fit into that is typically tempered by how a real life, healthy relationship would look and act. But since this is fiction, there'll be some pretty messy dynamics floating around here and there, and when these ships don't fit in that box, it's going to be deemed problematic the same way a real relationship with the same dynamic would.
As a fic writer for Samarina, the reason I fell in love with writing these two (and not just because I also love them separate) is because I agree that they're terrible for each other, and exploring the possibilities of how they would come together in spite of that is interesting to me. I want to see Marina almost mirroring Samarie's predatory behavior before she'd even give her a second glance. I want to see the circumstances that could bring them to resembling a functional couple; perhaps even obscuring the obvious power dynamic that still obviously exists. The point is that they're awful, and that they're not your typical ship that could sustain a relationship, unless you go OOC. At the same time, I understand that this could turn a lot of people off. I get that it's not for everyone.
Then there's the point of 'if this was a hetero ship, y'all would be playing a different tune', to which I sort of agree, but to a certain extent. Yes, I agree that if Samarie was a man, her predatory behavior would be received differently. But the dynamic between Samarie and Marina doesn't end at Samarie's stalking and otherwise gross beheavior, even within the canon. But even then, there'll still be a huge community of people who'd love this ship if it was het for a lot of the same reasons that I listed in my previous point.
I don't want to steamroll over this point too hard, as I still think it has its validities. And I believe that there's still a real conversation to be had here about how misogyny wraps around to affecting toxic fem/ ships in using points like this, I just think this post is getting a little too long lol.
Anyway, that's enough from me. Thanks for reading if you've made it to this point <3
I'm actually pretty excited about this chapter, as we already got to see Sam and Marina meet, and that was kind of an ordeal. But now we get to see them interact in a meaningful way.
Listened to an album called Rat Saw God by Wednesday while I wrote it. Go listen to it, it's pretty good.
I had a dream last night that I had a direct line to god, and they told me that Miro lost all the data for the update. Like the data corrupted along with all the backups, and now the update is just functionally lost media.
Surely it's just a dream, and had nothing to do with my rat prayers...
I've got my fat little rat body down on my knees at my bedside. It's past my bedtime, but I must speak aloud the prayers of my soul, lest I get a restless sleep again tonight.
"Dear lord." I quietly plea, my claws clasped together in prayer.
"Oh my dear, sweet lord. Please, oh please let me awake to the long awaited update for the sequel of the hit indie survival horror game series, Fear & Hunger | Termina." I whisper, a woeful breath wafting over my paws.
"Even just the release date, lord, it's all I want... Amen."
Here's poem I wrote for Fire Blight, but I guess it's got some interesting imagery without that context. It's from a chapter that'll probably come out soon, but since I didn't have anything out for for my birthday, I'm just gonna throw this out there.
In the vague outline of a terrified woman, an awful memory is tucked in. She's exhaustively small in such a large structure.
She's soft, like it was her first day on earth. She has her mother's eyes, and apparently her father's temper.
She watched herself from where she was pinned to the ceiling, like a moth by its wings.
The corroded Father offered her words of destruction; words of old that were hard coded into her DNA, into the Rosetta Stone of her being. Words that she was terrified she would lurch towards.
As his- her church burned, along with the tree that grew stagnantly therein, she ran away the remaining victim of the complex. Inside her, a realization stirred among the burning timber and boiling tendons.
Todays my birthday, and I wanted to either draw something silly or post on AO3 to celebrate but I got busy :p. So here's my precursory birthday post while it's still my birthday, and make the actual post when I have the time.
Fire Blight | Chapter 20 : Nothing's Without Cost | Part 1
Hey y'all! Don't mind me, just dusting off this blog to remind you that I very VERY very regularly add updates to this fic that I enjoy writing. And inconsistency is a very bad no good practice, that absolutely noooooo writer EVER should fall into the clutches of unless they want to DIE.
In all seriousness I think I should be reprimand within the full extent of the law, to prevent me from dropping off the cliff side of the internet again. I went out and touched a bit too much grass. Inhaled a bit too much fresh air. Absolutely disgusting, never again...
