John let the charcoal linger at the last letter, a wrinkle between his brow. He glanced at the black arabian and the sight wrung his lungs, making him quickly focus on the words in the journal resting in his lap.

They were somewhere, who the hell knew, and the map Helgot Voight gave him wasn’t helping shit. A freakish village, if you even would call it village, was sighted beneath the cliff where John decided to camp.

He’d followed the lead in the journal, but it only led him to a dead end in Van Horn. Now the startling rainstorm, showing up out of nowhere, kept him in his tent. The air surrounding John smelled of wet leather from the saddle he kept with him to dry, and smoke lingering from the campfire that’d not long ago been drenched by the rain.

With a sigh John rested his cheek against knuckles, elbow placed on crossed legs. Like everyday since leaving them, his mind kept returning to the Weathers. Awena’s words nagged him until his head felt like exploding while he kept fighting the feeling of regret and guilt.

There was also the thing he absolutely didn't want to think about, as this journey was to move forward and not grovel in the past. But like clockwork -like someone had gone their way to craft a curse on him- his eyes were back on the mountain and Arthur! echoed in his ears, stealing all air.
