The GMC CCKW, also known as "Jimmy", or the G-508 by its Ordnance Supply Catalog nr, was a highly successful series of off-road capable, 21⁄2-ton, 6x6 trucks, built in large numbers to a standardized design (from 1941 to 1945) for the U.S. Army, that saw heavy service, predominantly as cargo trucks, in both World War II and the Korean War. The original "Deuce and a Half", it formed the backbone of the famed Red Ball Express that kept Allied armies supplied as they pushed eastward after the Normandy invasion.
The CCKW came in many variants, including open or closed cab, long wheelbase (LWB) CCKW-353 and short (SWB) CCKW-352, and over a score of specialized models, but the bulk were standard, general purpose, cargo models. A large minority were built with a front mounted winch, and one in four of the cabs had a machine-gun mounting ring above the co-driver's position.
I wanted to show you guys the Trumpeter Soviet 52-K before it gets painted. I originally said this build wouldn't be too difficult and I couldn't have been more wrong. Many of the pieces are 1mm in size and require a VERY steady hand to hold and glue in place. There's tons of photo etch which is delicate work as well. Next step will be to prime it with Mr. Surfacer 1000 then paint with Vallejo 70.093 NATO green. The kit calls for Russian Green 70.823 but my local shop doesn't have it.
The 85 mm air defense gun M1939 (52-K) (Russian: 85-мм зенитная пушка обр. 1939 г. (52-К))[4] was an 85-mm Soviet air defense gun, developed under guidance of leading Soviet designers M. N. Loginov and G. D. Dorokhin. This gun was successfully used throughout the German-Soviet War against level bombers and other high- and medium-altitude targets. In emergencies they were utilized as powerful anti-tank weapons. The barrel of the 52-K was the basis for the family of 85-mm Soviet tank guns. After the war some 52-Ks were refitted for peaceful purposes as anti-avalanche guns in mountainous terrain. Virtually every country behind the Iron Curtain received this gun after World War II for their air defense. In the Soviet Union itself, these guns were largely superseded by the 100 and 130 mm guns.
Many people are intimidated by airbrushing with enamel paints as acrylic is usually the go-to for beginners. Have no fear, once you get a feel for how to thin the paint and know how to properly clean your airbrush you'll be a pro in no time.
A lot of companies are starting to sell products saying 'enamel wash' or 'enamel color' - those phrases don't even make sense and are in my opinion confusing to people new to scale modeling and kit building.
“Enamel” is a word that doesn’t define a ‘type’ of paint, but rather, refers to the ‘look’ of various paints: slick, glossy, and harder than some similar ones.
There are water based enamels, oil based enamels, lacquer based enamels, and maybe even some others I don’t know about.
Apple is telling app developers to remove or properly disclose their use of analytics code that allows them to record how a user interacts with their iPhone apps — or face removal from the app store, TechCrunch can confirm. In an email, an Apple spokesperson said: “Protecting user privacy is …
This is a really dumb move. It's not like Apple was previously unaware of this, there were entire venture backed companies built entirely around being able to do this and they've been around for years.
Despite seeming scary, this is actually the most benign form of data collection. People have this naive notion that companies have this obsessive desire to track them as an individual. Working at tech companies, this could not be further from the truth. I do not give a shit about you as an individual, I care about you as a collection of attributes that I can correlate with the attributes of the rest of the user base. The only time I care about you as an individual is if you're reaching out to our customer service as an individual with a problem and I want to help diagnose it.
The problem with screen recording data is remarkably useless for anything else because it's too high fidelity to be aggregated. If I want to serve you more personalized ads or manipulate you into purchasing something, there are other tools that are far more appropriate for the purpose.
The only reason Apple is doing this is for PR reasons, to help signal to everyone that they're a privacy conscious business. But they're doing this by leveraging people's misunderstanding of how data collection is done and banking on emotional fears rather than actual damage.
It’s no secret that Google planned to pull life support from the consumer version of Google+, its failure of a social network, in April. Until now, though, we didn’t know the exact date. That date, Google announced today, is April 2. On that date, Google will start deleting all content,…
I think the real reason why G+ didn't take off is because younger people were oversaturated with social media networks and most older people had already learned how to use Facebook. I think if I approached any of my older relatives with G+ they would have surely said "But I just learned how to use Facebook, now you want me to learn ANOTHER website!" The fact that any of my aging relatives is on Facebook is a miracle in and of itself.
I think G+ had done everything correctly, it was just too late. Same reason why there are still no real competitors to Facebook.
The real question is... How does Google unfuck all of the mandatory G+ integration that they forced on everyone?
Github user forks 'Algo' VPN to include Pi-Hole adblocking
I'm not sure how many people on here are familiar with the open source VPN 'Algo' but it's a IPSEC VPN that anyone can deploy on a VPS. It has the option to enable ad-blocking by way of Privoxy.
Anyway a GitHub user has created his own fork to include Pi-Hole functionality. He seems interested in continuing work but only if there is interest. Please check it out if this sounds promising to you!

Military reefkeeping, is it possible? As aquarists we all know how much time and devotion goes into our prized tanks - can you imagine putting the hobby on hold while you go on deployment for any amount of time?
There are a lot of questions one must ask themselves before building a massive and advanced aquarium, e.g. who will take care of it while you're overseas? Do they know how to troubleshoot common problems and will they be able to properly respond to an emergency?
I've been promising you guys an update on my planted 29g freshwater tank for a while... So here it is, with a HUGE rescape! What do you think?
Recently made a few upgrades to the 29g - I added a green star polyp, the CurrentUSA Orbit Marine Pro LED light, and last a Koralia Hydor 420gph circulation pump. So exciting!
In my previous video I talked about how I wasn't sure if I liked the "open top" look of my 29g planted aquarium. I was contemplating building a canopy for the aquarium until my wife suggested we move the tank from the cramped dining room to our living room. The change was just what my tank needed. Now instead of being in the cramped dining room, it's in our large living room and is definitely the focal point. The Planted+ looks really good on my tank and I've settled on leaving the top open.
Says here that you were in the Navy... What skills do you have?

Halo 5 brings nothing new to the multiplayer table
I was extremely disappointed with this release of Halo 5: Guardians, or more specifically the online multiplayer experience. Perhaps it’s just too soon to judge the game, but right now I am not enjoying it at all. The whole REQ feature rubs me the wrong way and really reminds me of the killstreak rewards in Call of Duty – they’re GREAT if you’re doing well in the game but if you’re on a losing streak it just adds insult to injury by making more advanced weapons unaccessible. In the end, these ‘Requisitions’ are nothing more than a sneaky marketing gimmick by developers to get players to either A) play the game substantially more in order to get more cards or B) spend real money (“microtransactions”) on these REQ cards. I prefer to to just play the game and receive my rewards in a linear fashion rather than relying on a RNG (random number generator) to decide what or if I receive anything.
More on the REQs: I have played the game for quite a bit and the process of receiving REQ points is painstakingly slow. In addition, I have opened quite a few REQ cards and have received HUNDREDS of duplicate items. This is just in the first 48 hours of playing the game. Extremely disappointing. Developers know players will become frustrated and hope they will just spend real money to open better REQ cards for hopes of better items.
Multiplayer doesn’t really bring anything new or innovative to the table and I don’t understand how 343 Industries expects to compete with other first person shooters which offer a much more substantive & immersive online experience. Most game modes in Guardians are variations of Team Deathmatch and Warzone Assault is really just Rush from Battlefield. I can’t help but feel like this is just a space themed COD style arena shooter. If that’s your thing, fine, but I think I’ll stick to Destiny or Battlefield 4.
