i see a lot of fanart etc of gideon where she is drawn as a very big and tall person and like yeah, valid and cool interpretation but like. consider. perhaps gideon is mostly perceived as so big because harrow is really tiny. like these ppl have been living in basically caves for thousands of years. maybe gideon is like 5’7 but harrow is only like 4’10. maybe gideon is 5’4 and harrow is 5’2 and gideon only rlly appears huge because she swings swords and harrow is a twig. yk?

one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.

DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU’RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.

One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.”  I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.

But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting.  Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible.  Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible.  Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.

fwiw the “former gifted kid” slash “gifted kid burnout adult” experience/feeling is very often a symptom of autism. autistic brains tend to develop a lot of stuff earlier than other but it ends up about the same in adulthood, which tends to mean everything stops being easy all the time at a point when failure feels so much more consequential. know that obviously you are not alone in this experience, but also know that this experience is likely not actually you slacking off or burning out as an adult per se; rather just your brain not fitting into the mold that all of society expects

As many of you have probably noiticed, trans comics are no longer my speciality, and this is probably how it'll stay. I don't want my gender identity to defy me. I'll still be posting art tho, and maybe some comics every now and then :)

i am dying for people to recognize harrow and gideon as the golden child/scapegoat in the locked steam cooker of several layers of institutional abuse. of course harrow's love is cramped and painful and awful, of course gideon's love is obsessed and self-negating, of course they're fixated on each other and yet blind to each other. gah.
