As stated previously, this is my Death Note sideblog.

I ship Lawlight (though exclusively top L and bottom Light), Remisa, Mellodramattic, Meronia, Nearlymellodramattic, Mikalight, Matsulight and also Birthdaymassacre.

Favorite characters are Light and Near so be prepared to see them a lot.

Light Yagami looked up at the Muppet on top of him with a feeling of tenderness that made little sense given the situation. He knew the glint in Kermit's eyes, the murderous intent. It reminded him of himself, in a way. When he fancied himself a God of Death. When he was Kira.

The fact that it was a trap did not make the Muppet Hole any less alluring. Light had always loved the taste of forbidden fruit. He would bite into it again and again, no matter how many times he damned himself. It was always worth it.

He had tried to run from his nature before. To live a happier life with his wife and son. He wished so badly that he could've done it. But if Icarus hadn't flown as high as he had, the sun would've come down to the earth to meet him anyway.

Kermit prepared to lower himself onto Light's aching member. Their eyes were locked, their breathing heavy. Kermit's hole dripped with lust just as much as it did with poison.

Light wanted this so, so badly.

And yet.

He thought of his wife.

"Wait," Light rasped. "Let's try something else,"

Kermit stopped immediately, poisonous muppet hole inches away from Light's lightning rod.

"Anything for you, darling," the muppet whispered, eyes burning with seething hatred, and with something else harder to decipher. "What do you have in mind?"

Then Light got out the

Light Yagami was boypreggers. And so was Batman. And so was L from Death Note. And it was all Light's fault.

He didn't know what to do. He'd never gotten pregnant from a muppet before whilst also impregnating two other men. He already had a kid, and now what, three other babies on the way?

He was hyperventilating.

It was raining outside, and Light was sat on the curb of some street. Which street, he wasn't sure. He'd wandered for hours after getting the news, after trying to call Kermit, who didn't respond. Light sat in the darkness, letting the cold of the rain numb his bones.

Maybe I deserve this, he thought.

"Hey," came a kind voice, as a clown-textured hand softly grasped his shoulder, "Don't talk about yourself like that."

It was the Joker.

I didn't realize I said that out loud, thought Light.

Joker chuckled lightheartedly.

"You didn't kid. I'm the Joker of the mind! Everyone has one," He chuckled whimsically.

Oh, thought Light. "Huh," He said.

"I can hear the way you think about yourself. You think it's all your fault," Joker chuckled sadly.

"I cheated on Kermit, and L. My wife! Plus, Batman's pregnant now. All because of me. How's he gonna fight crime and catch murderers!" Light from Death Note wailed.

"So you got Batman pregnant. So what? You think Old Jokey hasn't been there a million times?" He chuckled and winked.

A million?! Thought Light. That's a lot of babies!

"We aborted them." Joker "And anyway, that's not the point. Here's what you're going to do. You're going to pick yourself up, go back home, take a nice hot shower, and make yourself a warm drink. Treat yourself, make yourself feel loved. I know you think you don't deserve it, because of how you were raised, and your father's emotional neglect, but that cycle of self loathing ends with you," He chuckled with a soft smile. "And I have something for you, to help with the self love."

"What is it?" Questioned Light. Joker reached into his pocket.

Someone much more intelligent and well-versed in Japanese national history than me has written a master's thesis in the last 20 years about Death Note as a specifically post-nuclear horror story and the global introduction of a never-before-seen weapon of instant genocide creating a future from which the entire world can never return but that is not stopping me from rolling it around in my head like a ball over and over

A huge part of the lingering horror of Death Note is the proven longevity of Kira. There is no world where Kira doesn't exist anymore. The ending of the anime is beautiful but it does cheat the viewer somewhat out of the ending of the manga, in which the last thing we see is a cult of Kira worshippers having a candlelight vigil to pray for his return. Kira is unburnable, unburiable, an idea that's impossible to shake from the global social conscience. There is common literal religious belief that the power of Kira was divinely placed into the hands of the "good guys" to put a stop to evil.

The historiography of Kira in 2019 is addressed some in The a-Kira Story, obviously, but what does history say about Kira in 50 years? In 70? Kira is officially taught in schools as a mass murderer, as an example of objectively morally evil behavior on par with Hitler, but the average person tends to be of the opinion that Kira was "terrible, but necessary," regardless of the very clear horror of his actions and the fact that they amounted to genocide. Kira ended wars when mere humans wouldn't. Kira deterred crime when the police weren't enough.

And Kira returns on a small scale repeatedly following Light's death, in these comparatively minor crises like C-Kira's swath of assisted suicides and in a-Kira's attempt to pass on the power of Kira to the US government (wonder what that's about). There is no longer a public imagination where Kira isn't looming as a possible apocalypse. There is no public imagination in which it is impossible for Kira to return on the same massive, grotesque scale as the original, if not even greater. There is no way for humanity to say "this will never happen again," because they cannot control or disable the killing tool of Kira.
