I just watched the documentary and there is so much more about the troop that isn’t in this photoset—not only does the troop have a culture of little aggression and greater cooperation, but any incoming jerk baboons learned within a few months that their shitty behaviour was in no way acceptable, that the troop only rewarded sociability, and they changed accordingly.

My concentration completely sucks. It’s been a struggle for a few years now, since coming out of a year-ish of depression. I occasionally have bursts where I can grab hold of my focus and charge through tasks, get them done, get them done well, ect, like recently with NaNoWriMo I was able to hold on to that focus for an entire month and DO THE THING even though it was exhausting. And since then I can’t concentrate on shit. Again. I want to break out of this cycle, I want my concentration back. Meditating helps a little bit, so does working out, but if anyone has any more tips for getting my brain back into shape (and consistently, not just for a few weeks at a time), I’d appreciate it.

enough and regular sleep, have a stable rhythm

sufficient hydration (but drink water, not sth sugar-y)

regular walks (20-45 minutes; once a day) in nature; cityscapes are subobptimal; the literal ‘broad horizon’ is the aim, escape from confined spaces; the physical exercise is a nice side effect

an uncluttered environment (irl and computer desktop)

some people can work better with certain levels of ambient noise (need not be music), there’s websites like soundrown.com for that

some people can focus better when certain smells are present (worked nicely for me with citrus or bergamotte (”earl grey”), and sandalwood; try fresh stuff that isn’t too strong/heavy)

some people report a positive effect of changing their screen settings to colors that are easier on the eyes and the circadian rhythm: avoid bright blue/white light, especially in the afternoons and evenings, try green or sunflower as document and screen backgrounds or color schemes
