{ Trying to figure out if I’ll actually come back or move Chell... If I do, I’ll make a post about it. }
[ This blog is coming back eventually, so if anyone wants to interact with an old-as-hell Chell blog returning from the depths...... It’s your time to shine. ]
Welcome to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center
[ /comes here to feel better; sees that people enjoyed my ChellDOS story-drabble; is already feeling a lot better~/ ]
sLEEP.
Sleep: I’ll write a drabble of my character snuggling in bed with yours.
The entire thing was ridiculous, really. A pursuit of dreams currently and what seemed like forever out of grasp. Was it too much to ask for a nice bed to sleep on?
…Apparently, it was. At least, in regards to Aperture Science. Chell considered herself currently cursed with the inability to find a proper bed. Either their was a… Corpse, in the bed or the bed itself was in such a disgusting state that Chell found the floor to be a better substitute for her crisis. But she wasn’t at that point, not yet.
There was one thing she hadn’t tried yet, but she wasn’t too sure on her willingness to go through with it… After all, she’d noticed quite a time before that GLaDOS had snuck a bed into Her chamber and tucked it away. In the shadows, one could barely see it, really. But from what Chell remembered, it was just fine and not in a terrible condition… Not like these were.
In the end, Chell gave up and started heading for the main chamber, portal device propped up on her right shoulder as the test subject navigated her way through Aperture. At this point, the only one who knew the area better than she did was the AI Herself. Yet another feat Chell could take some twisted pride in.
Peering into the chamber not too long later, the test subject was surprised to note the dead silence within. The core itself was slightly slumped, showing that her consious wasn’t in it and the android was nowhere to be found. However, the bed that had been on Chell’s mind the whole walk over was still there, a real blessing in that moment.
Walking over with a hurried gait, Chell looked forward to the doze she’d finally get… Only to hesitate at the sight of a body already tucked away. Hesitation hit the test subject hard, about to to walk away, when she realized who was in it, exactly.
GLaDOS.
Huh, one would think she wouldn’t need sleep… But maybe the android body functioned differently from Her core one. That was the only sense Chell could make of the situation.
Had this been any time before, Chell would have left while sense still dominated. However, things were different this time around… In the weirdest of ways. A small smile quirked on her lips as she walked over to the bed, almost silent if not for her Long Fall Boots. Yeah, things had gotten weirder lately indeed…
The handheld portal device was propped next to the bed, ready for grabbing, just in case. Chell had long since gotten used to sleeping in her boots, so those stayed on as well. With that taken care of, she slipped into the bed beside GLaDOS for that sleep so had so craved.
…She could pretend that wrapping her arms around the AI was just some spur of the moment thing, right? Or brain damage? Yeah, they could go with that…

Open Roleplay
What’s ah, what’s that you’ve got in your hand there? That you’re pointing at me? Pretty sure you’re not supposed to have anything like that on you, especially out of testing, pointed at someone.
Wait, wait! What are you doi-AGH!
What did…what did you do to…me…
The core’s eyes shifted to static and then went blank as his servers shut down, his body going limp as he slumped to the floor, sparks snapping from where he’d been shocked. A moment passed before the optic in his chest began to glow again, the light pulsing gently before it flickered and then switched on completely.
Not long after his eyes opened, the optics coming back to life as he reset. Getting to his feet the AI brushed himself off and a smile pulled across his face “Hello! My name is Wheatley, how may I be of service?”
The first feeling to hit Chell was shock. Right after it? Panic, pure panic. She hadn’t known the strange little gray, remote-like object was going to be something that had screwed Wheatley up... Somehow. Honestly, why did she trust Aperture constructs again?! Just when she had gotten comfortable being with the android again...
Her first line of action, once the shock wore off, was to chuck the odd remote to the nearest wall with all the force she had in her arm, shattering it and making the remains spark uselessly. Then Chell turned back to Wheatley, lips drawn tight and grey eyes storming with silent worry as she looked into his blues intently.
Words later, Wheatley first.
A soft sigh escaped Chell’s lips as she walked away from the latest test, having luckily found a nice sized hole in which to escape out from near the lift to the next. That should even buy her more time in which she could grab for herself. Then again, she’d be lying if she said it was all just for her...
Without having to admit it consciously, Chell knew that she was already looking for Wheatley. He’d really grown on her as of late, and even during testing the back of her mind was wondering what he was doing. Was he alright and not getting himself into trouble? He hadn't done something dangerous behind her back yet, had he? Chell wouldn't trust GLaDOS to tell her anything about Wheatley getting into trouble. Chell could only assume that the central AI was waiting for some chance to send him through all the things She’d planned for him beforehand. Which, by now, was a large concern for the test subject, of course.
However, the sound of quiet mutters and distant footfalls soothed Chell’s quiet worries faster than anything. Wheatley. Her pace picked up and she could feel herself trying not to grin at the prospect of seeing Wheatley again.
It was something she failed gloriously at.
Before she knew it, Chell was racing towards that familiar voice, an elated smile on her face and footfalls loud and rushed. Rounding the corner, she was pleased to see the tall, lanky British android wandering around and needed not a second thought before she ran over to him, wrapping her free, left arm around Wheatley’s waist and pulling him close. Her face planted rather awkwardly in his back, but she could’ve really cared less, taking joy in the simple fact she could be with Wheatley again for a while longer.

"Oh, you’re the new core, aren’t you? Hullo there!"
…Chell was beginning to have a suspicious feeling. One that told her that Wheatley wasn’t the brightest bulb for a reason and not because of simply something like his systems wearing out over time. His completely obvious line made it even more obvious to her.
For now, she’d nudge it aside in favor of exploring the once human-populated domain, walking in and seeming to visibly relax while looking about. There was now an unguarded, peaceful look to her gray-orange eyes as she messed with the abandoned pencils and pens. There were a few papers about, with science notes on it. Those were especially interesting, noting their handwriting styles, who wrote what (by handwriting alone), and learning about the various projects that had been going through process after process of being (hopefully) approved.
Really, Chell loved this so much. This was truly a treat for her!
The lanky blonde himself, however, didn’t seem all that interested in the human artifacts. Sure, he’d grab the occasional toy or so, but that was about it (the children’s toys were the only thing that kept him entertained, anyways). He couldn’t understand why she was so intrigued by it all. But he didn’t want to be rude, so instead he waited, occasionally kicking something that was on the ground.
Surprisingly, though Wheatley might not have found it fun at all, Chell had returned to him after poking around with the closest thing to happiness on her face. It was all gentle and muted, as if her face wasn’t too sure how to smile wide or show full-out, pleasing joy, but it certainly was something.
“Wheatley, what do you think about humans?”

She had nodded during his short little ramble and automatically started following the second he’d begun to move. Chell no longer needed to even think about it now, if Wheatley went somewhere, she was going to follow after. Some exceptions, of course, like if she was called for testing. But for right now? Time to follow Wheatley through each which way he went.
After getting lost a couple times, he finally led her into a hallways where all the offices were. On one level, anyways. “Lots of computers, pencils, keyboards…all sorts of human rubbish.”

Put * in my ask box for my muse’s reaction to realizing that both of our muse’s are standing under the mistletoe.cowardlycore
Holiday parties were surprisingly fun. You know, aside from the fact that GLaDOS had allowed one for some mysterious reason and that everyone was having fun… Without any troubles happening thus far. Turrets playing their tunes, happy chatter coming from the cores… Strange, but nice.
If only she felt like loosening her tongue, she thought to herself with wry amusement, taking another drink of (surprise!) fresh coffee.
A sound snapped her out of her thoughts and Chell was pleased to see Rick had joined her under her space under the doorframe. A flirtatious, but decidedly nice enough core, she didn’t really mind his company. Nowadays, anyone’s company was welcome. Anyone but him.
However, her upwards gaze to the friendly core made her eyes notice another odd thing… A sprig of something, dangling above their heads.
Mistletoe.
Oh.
She glanced at Rick, wide-eyed and nervous. D-did this mean…?
Chell could almost feel the lie, but decided not to pursue it. Honestly, there was only so much she could take, thinking over her past and what the little girl of then must’ve been like… Comparing herself to then, Chell could safely assume that she was vastly different in all possible ways. In her nature, mentally and physically. She’d always assumed that was one of the big reasons she feared her own past. The differences, all the things she didn’t remember… The fear that they might change her now or reveal something she didn’t want to know.
Rather, she’d like the past to stay there, dead and buried, while she kept working for that future.
No longer could Chell pursue the topic of the past. She sighed and stepped back, away from the view of the fog. She found a nice little space she could nestle herself into, pulling her legs up to face. Her arms wrapped around her bent legs and chin propped itself on her knees. The topic had depressed her and when things got to Chell, she shut herself in a world all her own. Exactly what she was doing right now.
He watched, eyes widening as he realized what was happening. She had never been good with serious topics, why did he think that was a good idea? He walked over to her, bending down and sitting on his feet. “Chell? Hey, come on, you were sweet as a kid. So fulla ideas.” he coughed. “So your parents said…”
He stopped talking, realizing it probably wouldn’t help. He enveloped her in a hug, he didn’t care if she could feel it at the moment or not, he just wanted her to know that no matter what someone was going to be there for her, even when she didn’t think they could be. “S’gonna be alright. yer gonna get out and do big things.”
It wasn’t that she wasn’t good with them… It was that that topic carried too much emotional baggage for her to deal with emotionally. It just… It was too much for her. Too many questions begging to be asked. About Doug, about her, what her parents did… What about the cores? What had they all done before? Had they always had their quirks? (Wheatley a bit of a bumbling doofus, Fact spouting off random trivia, Space obsessed with, well, space, and so on.)
The hug initially caused her to stiffen, unused to contact of any kind, especially of the friendly variety. However, it didn’t take her long to sigh softly, breath fanning his shoulder as she leaned closer to him, accepting his embrace. “That’s what I’m hoping for.” Chell murmured, letting her eyes fall closed. Piece by piece, Rick was quietly earning pieces of her trust in him, even despite the current situation of her withdrawal into herself. It’d still be quite a bit before she was more open with him, more contact friendly, but for now, he was getting places in the trust department.

"…should be a storage room or somethin’, yeah…..oh, I’ve got it. There’s some old offices not far from here. Plenty of human things. And I’m also fairly sure this is the right way." The Android headed off once more, occasionally glancing behind him to see of she was following.

“No… Ah didn’t” he lied. He had known her, and they had been almost as close as he was to his coworkers, but she would have been too young to remember, just a child when everything happened. Doug and her the only human survivors to the betrayal. “Ah heard’a ya though, like Ah said you were big in Aperture before the whole thing went to shit. Yer parents were head a the robotics department, they developed the design of the cores, good people.”
He avoided speaking about his role, if she asked he wouldn’t lie, but he wouldn’t say it without prompting either, he’d make sure if she asked that she would know it was his fault, and his alone, that she… everyone was like this now.

“Yeah, just spacing out.” She murmured, eyes not leaving the fog until he turned the topic onto something quite depressing. Then he had her complete, undivided attention, watching him quietly. Considering his words, she turned back to the endless fog, going through her words.
“…Yeah, I’m just waiting for my chance to do so. Though…” More considering of her words. “I just wish it didn’t have to be like that for you. There are some in here that I do like, as distrusting as I am. You, Space, and Fact core. The little turret I call Oracle.” Her eyes softened to such a dangerously sweet degree. “…The strange person who’s been my guide through this place. Almost a guardian to me.”
A though occurred to her that cast off that warm look, eyes hardening slightly. “Perhaps Wheatley too. I haven’t fully forgiven him yet, but… Maybe this place really has all drives us to some degree of crazy. Getting out there might do him some good.”
“Doug.” it was the only word out of his mouth for a while, he looked sadly at the fog, his eyes glazed as he remembered the good times they’d had. When Doug wasn’t insane, when he, space, fact, and yes… even Wheatley had human bodies, not much different from their android counterparts. When everyone was alive and breathing air instead of neurotoxin. “Doug was his name…” he wasn’t sure if Doug was even alive still, he was missing from the party.
“Mine was Rick… I forgot Space and Facts… poor bastards don’t remember they were ever human… Wheatley don’t either…” he rubbed his face a bit. “Doug was a good man, Ah worked with him quite a bit, spoke in the break room as well.” he smiled a bit. “He was always a good man. Guess he never changed.”
He… He knew? He remembered? Her gaze returned to Rick in shock, not attempting to hide it or even restrain it in any way. He used to know her painter, her guide, too?! Doug… Other than figuring something had to be out of balance with him, Chell had gathered he must’ve been an interesting person to get to know. What had floored her, however, was his constant, quiet support. His words told her where to go and what to do the first time around. He had apparently watched over her, considering the large artwork of her sleeping form, GLaDOS’ old promise of cake (shown in drawing of Chell, with the large AI near, a thick wire offering cake), and the end of their first fight, with Chell outside and Doug (she assumed) holding the portal device above his head.
She had found what must’ve been his hiding spots, complete with jugs and cups and empty bean cans and abandoned computers, stripped away to a certain point. Probably to heat things up a little. His artwork was on the walls in such a way, his writing, that Chell had often imagined it as an attempt to get them there before they escaped him entirely.
…Though there was something else to note with the whole human thing. Human once… She wanted to ask about Doug, the one who’d help motivate her through Aperture, but… “Did you… Did you ever see me?” Came out instead. Rick appeared to be the only one who remembered those times and now was a good time as any to ask… Despite her fears of what happened back then. Memories of a different Chell.

"Oh, you’re the new core, aren’t you? Hullo there!"
…Android Hell? Why did Chell get the feeling she didn’t want to know? A sigh for particularly troubling things, before her gaze followed Wheatley’s extended hand. More testing for them, huh? “Turrets must have such simple lives.” She noted quietly, not really meaning for it to be something that needed answering. Just a note on her own thoughts.
"…Who knows. Anyway, have any preferences for wot to see next?"
Chell thought that over. Was there any place that might be of interest to her that Aperture might have? “…Is there any place with leftover human stuff?” She asked finally, wanting to go poking through more things in relations to people. She was strangely fascinated with them, in a way she was still trying to understand herself. Something about them… Very curious, indeed.
ღ
Chell glanced down at the slip of paper with the symbol on it, then back to GLaDOS with a small smile trying to break through impassive lips.
"Unrequited? I thought we had already talked about how I felt for you…" That small smile broke through, though there was something else tinged with it. Teasing, perhaps?
"I admit, after your absence, it was very boring." She chuckled under her breath, and her yellow eyes flickered softly as she dipped her forehead to touch hers, and her hands wrapped around Chell’s waist slowly. "No thrilling notion that at any second, I would be thrown off by your infamous tenacity." Her eyes lifted to locked back with Chell’s eyes, and her golden optics seemed to glimmer for a moment as the two shared a prolonged kiss, lingering there as they stood there, together.
Chell let that kiss gone on for quite a bit before pulling back slowly, letting each movement be painfully obvious until she had her room to speak.
"I don’t know, being incredibly tenacious has served is both very well, I’d think. It’s helped me get through testing and, if not for it, still standing before you. I don’t think it’s every day someone sweeps the past under a rug and kisses a very lovely AI such as yourself." …Damn Chell; smooth.
She scoffed, rolling her eyes. “It’s certainly not every day a lunatic turns into a very gentle person. I’d thought I’d take that for a change. You are very unpredictable, most of the time, anyway.” But that’s what thrilled her the most. Constantly living on the edge, seeing what a capable and able mind and body could do, with a curious mindset. She was forever cursed and blessed in chains with this lunatic. It was an on going cycle, and she didn’t mind.
She loved it.
She pressed their forehead together slightly before pulling away, her fingertips leaving her waist last. She let out a soft breath, a sigh as she ran a hand through her hair. “But I’m GLaD we came to a conclusion.”
“I guess it has all been dependent on what we’ve been seeing. I could’ve been a-- Hm, never mind. I think testing would have swept out majority of my gentle nature. Though as you can see, it’s still here despite it all. Like me.” A brow quirked, a small smile on her face. She was all warmth and mirth, a stark difference to the… Well, indifference and focus she displayed while testing. Almost like two separate people and sometimes, Chell felt that way.
There was a faint look of playful disappointment in Chell’s eyes as GLaDOS backed away from her, though her grey eyes missed nothing. Her smile widened and she nodded in agreement. “Yeah, it’s a good day to seal deals. Though… Was that a slight pun that I heard or am I just as much as a lunatic as you make me out to be?”
