Okay, picture this: fourth wing Dirty Dancing AU.
We can have Violet as Baby, the young and impressionable daughter of a high ranking general. In this AU, like Baby, she will be exposed to other realities and learn how much her privilege has made her vision of the world idealized and what it actually means to help people in a more grounded, real way.
Violet comes with her family (Lilith, Mira and herself) to a summer retrieve with some of her mother's colleagues. She is estranged from her mother, like in fourth wing, because of Brennan and Asher's deaths. Mira is serving and needs to network on this retrieve so they don't have much time together. And here she meets Xaden (as Johnny), the hot entertainment, while he dances with Imogen one night. She is immediately OBSESSED. But he doesn't seem to notice her (he pretends well because he is just as obsessed as her).
One night she encounters Xaden's brother, Liam (as Billy), and helps him carry supplies to a party with the 'rebellion kids'. There she and Xaden talk and dance for the first time. The next day, she and her family have lunch with the Aetos family, and Colonel Aetos (as Max) seems to heavily imply that a marriage between their families would be beneficial, since Violet and his son, Dain (as Neil), are both of age and acquainted. Dain seems happy with the situation, but not because he loves Violet, just for political reasons and to make his father happy. And that is what mostly turns Vi off.
Latter Violet finds out that Xaden's dancing partner is pregnant, and the asshole that impregnated her wants nothing to do with the situation (first I thought of Barlowe, but hard to see him and Imogen, so my idea was either put Halden here OR change the story lightly with Garrick) . So she uses her family's money and influence to get her a doctor who will perform an abortion. If Garrick is the one to impregnate her, then change the story so he doesn't know she is pregnant, and she doesn't want him to know.
As in the movie, Violet has to step in for Imogen in a dance competition so she can go to this doctor. So she spends a lot of time with Xaden so she can learn the routine. Right after the competition, they find that Imogen is really sick because the doctor is basically a butcher. So Violet makes the decision of asking her mother for help, Lilith does not approve, but she acquiesces and call for a military doctor she trusts. She thinks Xaden is responsible for what happened to Imogen and orders Violet to stay away from him. Violet does not obey, and their relationship decays further.
A while later, a rich woman see's Violet and Xaden together. This woman, Catriona, is pissed because earlier Xaden turned her down, so she plant some evidence and accuses him of robbery. Violet learns of this in a brunch where Dain boasts about rules and "making the right thing" and firing Xaden (as in the book, there is no real ill intent, he is just a bootlicker). Violet then says she knows Xaden didn't do it because they were together. Chaos ensues, Xaden is fired anyway (this time for seducing a guest).
Dain and Violet fight, he tries to confess his feelings for her, she is pissed and wants nothing more to do with him. Mira sees her sister heartbroken and finally makes the time to stand by her. They have a heart to heart and cry about letting their grief drive them apart.
Last day of summer, there will be a talent show. Lilith finds out through Garrick that Xaden was not the one responsible for the Imogen thing, and understands she made a mistake. Xaden comes back, does the hole "nobody puts baby in the corner", they dance, happy ending. On the way out, Lilith intercepts them, says she was wrong about Xaden, and apologizes to Violet for being distant. Their relationship is not fixed, but is a start.
