“I suppose he’d probably take it as a compliment, then. Hm?” Emma leaned down gently to kiss the little boy’s temple. His expression hardly changed. She continued, “Would you like that? To be called Sammy? It’s short for Samuel.”Sammy. He looked up at her. He was trying to work out in his head if that was some sort of codename? It had to have been. He was specifically not given a human name.
“I sure hope so,” Steve managed, scratching his cheek. Sam was important to him. They helped each other out. Went running. Saved each others lives more than he could count. “He would. If not, then. We still have a Sammy!”
Bucky snickered at Steve ruining the English language. Placed the block on whatever structure Sammy was building now. “Shut up. I’m helping. I want to help. This is babysitting.”
“You’d make a good dad.”
“Nah.” Bucky waved his metal hand, smirking. Children were a liability in his line of work. Not to mention he was single and moved around a lot. Mission to keep going. “Don’t have the temperament like you.” Glancing at Sammy, he smiled to himself. Maybe kids were ok.
The boy- ‘Sammy’ now- watched as the new block was placed atop the structure. He suckled on is binkie as he contemplated his next move. With the dinosaur plush in hand he could easily have brought the building down again, but this process seemed pointless now. He held the dinosaur closer to himself and inspected it instead.
“There’s no pressure to be his father or anything. I can take care of him- adopt... Peter and I could raise him for you. I mean, you only have to be as involved as you’d like.”
