Get to know OMARI JACKSON who’s TWENTY-EIGHT years old and works as a RAPPER in town. He is from CORONA and is often times mistaken for SEAN ANDERSON while others say he reminds them of FIFTEEN CENT from THE PROUD FAMILY.
BASICS.
Growing up in wizville, Omari has dreams of stardom. He wanted to be more than a product of his environment. He wanted to be able to make enough money to take care of his mom and grandma, buy them their dream home in the better parts of corona and keep them from worrying about bills and where their next meal would come from. The women in his life gave up everything for him and wanted to pay them back ten fold.
For omari he looked at hip hop artists and rappers as his idols. They were everything he wanted and where he wanted to be when he grew up. The entourages, the women, the bling, the money.. he wanted it all for himself. Most notably, seeing Powerline come up from the same place he did he felt he could too.
Though Omari's always had good intentions and a good heart, it didn't keep him out of trouble. It wasn't hard to get involved with the wrong crowd leading him to get involved in shady, illegal activities. At fourteen, after his mother lost her job he began selling weed to help ends meet. Of course he told his mom he got a job to cover it up. He didn't want to disappoint her but saw it as his job to help her out.
His love for music started at a young age. His grandmother always says it started as a baby with him babbling along to motown music they played in the house. He's always had a knack for picking up beats and lyrics quickly. It wasn't until when he started fucking around with his friends at lunch that he began freestyling. This turned into rapping in ciphers during high school and filming himself freestyling over the instrumentals of popular songs which ultimately caused him to go viral and get the attention of wizard kelly.
At eleven he adopted the rap name 15 cent as a play on rapper 50 cent. In his own words, he had to keep it family friendly because ' his mama loved him ' and wouldn't allow anything else. 15 cent stuck and it worked.
Getting signed was a dream come true. He was 17 when he got signed to his first label. He was willing to do anything he had to to make it, even if it meant making more kid friendly music in the beginning of his career. He wasn't going to throw his shot away. He did everything he could to make it.
There's a lot of rumors about him, since he was a kid he let people say what they wanted to say. His mom and grandmother taught him early one people would always have something to say and he had to learn not to let it get to him. At the end of the day, they were still talking about him and no matter what he said he couldn't change it. He learned early on in his life that only those who's opinion meant something to him mattered. The bigger he got in his career, he adopted those rumors into the persona he created. Those who got to know him as Omari knew who he really was. Omari Jackson and 15 cent are two different people.
Since he came from nothing, omari likes to live a lavish lifestyle and show it off but thats not all he's about. He gives back to help build up black communities everywhere. Though he left corona, he always gave back to help those from where he came from; often donating to help the kids of wizville and the pride lands. Charity and activism is very important to him and hes very vocal about it.
From day one hes always wanted to have fun. He's doing what he loves and it doesn't feel like work but lately, he finds himself disconnected from the scene he grew up with. He finds rappers taking themselves too seriously and wanting to be considered hard and the desire to instantly become successful without grinding for it affecting his love of what he does. He feels hes come to a crossroads in his career and returning to where he came from to get that love back. When he left Corona, he vowed to be like Powerline and never return.. that was success to him. Now he's learning that coming home isn't so bad. Sometimes you have to return to your beginnings to find yourself again.
