Or well, more like I noticed something while rewatching some older Sanders Sides videos and got eXCITED so I gotta share! >:D
(But really, it was my 12 year old sister who actually spotted this moment and gave me the base idea for what it might mean, so mad kudos to her and her cleverness. ♡)
So this video, right? Christmas carols and sweaters and Logan actually solo singing and leaving everyone shook, the holiday season, the works, ya know?
Also the video where, apparently, this happens as Roman sinks out:
“…and hopefully not visions of your naked Aunt Patty.”
Uhhh, does that little out of place comment not seem strangely pertinent knowing what we know now?
Keep in mind that this is after Accepting Anxiety, so both Thomas and the audience at this point were aware that there were “others”, just not who or what to look out for, mainly because of Roman’s little outburst reply to Virgil that was quickly silenced (presumably by Deceit, ironically enough).
So at this point, the Dark Sides are in the process of being woven into the plot of the new videos as they lead up to later reveals.
But returning to Roman’s relatively random comment about one Aunt Patty, it’s absolutely acknowledged by both Thomas and Roman that it was weird and out of place:
It was certainly an “unpleasant side comment,” and it didn’t even rhyme, as most of Roman’s little quips and turns of phrase normally do. Roman himself says he doesn’t know where it came from as he sinks back out.
But who do we know that does spout nonsensical and uncomfortable remarks without rhyme or reason?
Yea, this stinky trash hoe.
This garbageboy stinkman that happens to technically be Roman’s other half, sharing the trait Creativity with him. And in one instance during the video, the two of them matched up in their insults to Logan:
Although whether that’s similar thinking do to their linked functions/personalities or one directly affecting the other is up for debate. Either way, their personas and actions do obviously line up in more ways than one. It’s not too far fetched to suppose that maybe a bit of Remus’ vulgarity may bleed through into Roman’s words and actions on occasion, especially being repressed as he was before the Intrusive Thoughts video.
Of course, I can’t be certain, but given the momentary awkward strangeness of the moment between Thomas and Roman in the 12 Days of Christmas video, and how well thought out and written these videos usually are in connection to each other, I’d say that it’s not that far of a leap to presume that the Duke was already well in the works even thar long ago (a year and a half ago!).
I mean, Roman is silenced involuntarily by his own hand at the end of Accepting Anxiety (July of 2017), but Deceit didn’t actually make his debut until about 7 months later (February of 2018). I’d wager the Duke has been planned alongside the snake boi for about as long and is only coming to light now that the plot has caught up to our boys.
Who knows? Maybe I’m reading too much into things, idk. This was mostly as bit of word vomit of my thoughts on the connections between characters and past videos.
(But who know what other teeny tiny moments we’ve missed?)
