what level of fictional society obsession is it when you have headcanons about what the most common disordered eating habits would be in a specific alien society

anyway. niche headcanon time: The Eating Disorder Of Rassilon. he wouldn't fit the criteria for anorexia, because his food issues have nothing to do with weight or body image issues at all; they have to do with issues around having a body. rassilon, obsessed with control as he is, does not take kindly to the notion of "physiological needs." he sees going without food as a matter of willpower, resilience, superiority compared to those lowly creatures who are governed by their primal urges and instincts...and he sees eating when he's hungry as basically conceding that there are aspects of his own existence that he can't control.

on top of that, the way time lords "digest" the biodata of any organic material they consume became something of a PTSD trigger for rassilon after his (partial?) vampiric infection; when he does eat, he has a tendency to purposefully eat stuff with as little organic material in it as possible. he'll eat straight plastic before he'll eat meat. this is barely more nutritious for a time lord than for a human.

the "restrictive eating disorder tied to the time lord superiority complex" is what i think would be the most common type of disordered eating on gallifrey. as a society of shapeshifters, time lords would be a bit less inclined to develop weight loss culture and/or diet culture in general, but they sure would develop "material self-deprivation is actually what makes us better than animals" culture. which is probably rassilon's fault

also: that post about the 507th pythia 100% is implying that gallifreyan civilization lasted long enough to go through over 500 lifespan-extended rulers before having their industrial revolution. they unironically went from the equivalent of the enlightenment era to colonizing other planets at more or less the same rate this took/will take humanity in real life (i.e. a handful of centuries).

because isn't gallifrey all about stasis and stagnation? and isn't the rassilonian era really quite similar to the pythian era in many ways? with that parallel in mind, what if gallifrey has been through an unfathomably long period of Lack Of Change before?

being decidedly not normal about tecteun and trying to refine my fuckass headcanon timeline has me coming up with headcanons about the 507th pythia. i am in overthinking things hell you guys

can't sleep due to mouth pain so i'm elaborating on this.

the 507th pythia was, inasmuch as this is possible for the ruler of a theocracy, kind of radical. her reign saw a lot of rapid social and political change.

one of the biggest events that occurred during 507's several centuries in office was the technologist movement (note the lack of a prefix), which was exactly what it sounded like; a societal shift towards more non-magical technology. 507 was, controversially, in favor of this; though a woman of faith above all else, she did not see the proliferation of science and technology as inherently opposed to religion.

this movement spawned something of an industrial revolution, which of course within the next couple of centuries got to the point of space travel, and ultimately it was late in 507's reign that tecteun's space survey happened and the gallifreyan empire began.

now the thing is...in real life, how many periods of rapid social progress aren't followed by political pendulum swings? the 507th pythia was insanely controversial, and when she stopped taking the elixir and handed the empire over to her sucessor, gallifrey was sort of having their version of the 1960s or the 2020s. aka it felt like the world was going crazy, and society was taking a hard conservative turn to try and get "back to normal."

the 508th pythia was exceptionally traditional and conservative even by sovereign pythia standards—in part because she was, as a young woman, inheriting absolute authority over a state already in the throes of upheaval and unrest. and on the verge of war (with the vampires), AND that state now encompassed entire stellar systems rather than just the one planet. so she did what any inexperienced dictator would do and tightened her fist harder and harder...

...until all hell broke loose and she ended up with a full-scale revolution on her hands, because you can't un-change society. the neo-technologists didn't come out of nowhere; society as the citizenry knew it during the early days of 507's reign was already dead. the revolution had already started. 508 was doomed from the start.

508 despises 507.

the way "average" height varies by region is actually really funny if you live somewhere that skews tall. you'll read something where a woman or female character is described like "she's ENORMOUS, she's a fucking GIANTESS who TOWERS over everybody, men COWER IN FEAR of her because she is so HUGE" and then it turns out she's like, 5'9". maybe 5'10". and i'm like woah. she's like, the size of an average woman from the canadian province of alberta

top 5 rassilon moments?

whatever the GENUINE fuck was happening in five doctors. imagine trolling people from beyond the grave using the most bizarre, convoluted, nonsensically incomprehensible methods, to horrifying ends, just to show everyone how much it fucking sucks to be immortal. and it involves showing up as a floating disembodied head as well. like i love how this is his first TV series appearance and what we learn about him right off the bat is that he's (a) very powerful, (b) literally just a silly guy (evil), and (c) BATSHIT NUTS. love that for him.

end of time. i may have mixed opinions on this two-parter overall but its depiction of rassilon is fantastic. the crazy plan that's halfway between a manic episode and a suicide plan that involves taking everyone and everything else with him. the fuckass temu regalia. the way he uses that thanos gauntlet to vaporize people with lightning even though he, canonically, can literally just do that. like the gauntlet is completely unnecessary. rassilon stop aurafarming you have an evil plan to carry out.

everything in jorus and the voganauts. imagine you are God, and then also you get drugged and kidnapped by an anthropomorphic bird who wants to force you to invent time travel for her. you proceed to FLIRT with her. then hijack her technology and use the combination of that hijacked technology and your own insane psychic powers to just yoink a random alien spaceship across a galaxy to bust you out of bird furry prison. i could go on about this fuckass short story that haunts my every waking moment. it is so fucking funny. rassilon treats being held prisoner as like, a mild inconvenience. he's genuinely nice to the aliens who rescue him and doesn't even try to betray them a little bit. damn rassilon you are off your game in this one!

the gallifreyan history lore currently suffers from a severe case of The Matrix (1999) Syndrome, where everything about it is treated as so painfully self-evident it isn't even worth giving any kind of moral or intellectual weight to one side of the argument because it's just so obvious that the pythian era was better and rassilon in his infinite evil and stupidity ruined something pure and holy for no reason because he and his supporters hate fun, and i really do think there is a genuinely compelling and thematically relevant story buried under all that, but on the other hand...

there is something lowkey humorous about the way the doctor who universe really wants to have its cake and eat it too by both (a) constantly hyping up the pythian era as the Mythical Glorious Past When Things Were Better, but also (b) making the pythian era sound absolutely dystopian. like oh this was the era of imagination and creativity and infinite possibility but they had slavery, imperialism, gender-based oppression, and an absolute theocracy, and we're just. not supposed to question any of this because we know that what came after wasn't great either??

like man come onnnnn i know we're supposed to see the pythias' reign as this wonderous lost age of beauty and freedom and whimsy and blah blah blah but all i'm seeing here is that the poor citizenry of gallifrey have never once known the wonders of separation of church and state 😭

the deprivation of sleep? on the surface it SEEMS good, but it needs a lot more development. we are losing the war. we are being cut down on the front lines. we've found a way to get certain buffs from sleep deprivation (makes you better at writing) but the debuffs are increasingly devastating and i can't find a way to dispel them. especially the shivering. everything else can be managed at least a little bit but the "you're going to feel cold as fuck until you take shelter in the warmest place you know (bed)" is just CRUEL. anyway. i think we need to take this to the ICC
