@19thcenturyfuck
earth is such a wonderful and beautiful planet. the range of life and the range of environments. it is just such a feat that it exists in the first place & supports so many different plants and animals. ough
the thing about language academies like l'académie française suggesting alternatives to english loanwords is i think this would actually be feasible if they came up with good alternatives. ordinateur is a solid alternative to computer! it's not much longer, for one thing. and some english loanwords, like "le wokisme", are incredibly stupid. but if your suggested alternative to an english loanword is five words long and sounds like it was invented by victor hugo in a desperate bid to increase the word count of parisian sewers then maybe you should think twice before recommending it.
OMEGA: Ask me! You want to know about the Scintillans, Professor? I killed them. I killed them all, and do you know why? Do you want to know my secret? My secret is that I am mad. There, now you know. Now you can die happy!

you asked for asks ten hours ago but that was unfortunately midnight for me so here is an ask now: top ten experiments tecteun performed on the timeless child?
time is a social construct by which i refuse to abide. also, LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO
but then...all LMAOOOOOOOs aside, this does give me a great opportunity to think through, in practical terms, exactly what sorts of "experiments" she was doing! because it is this whole trope to have a character subjected to extremely vague unethical "experiments" as a child, but it's extremely rare that this ever gets elaborated on. i don't know a lot about science, including of the physiological and/or biomedical variety, but i'm sure tecteun does.
so in no particular order,
i really doubt she jumped straight to killing the kid just to observe the regenerative process. she can't have known immediately that regeneration was something that could occur multiple times, let alone ad infinitum. the earliest "experiments" tecteun did on her kid were almost certainly before their first regeneration and of the non-torturous variety, more focused on determining how medically similar they were to a gallifreyan child. surely no responsible parent-who-is-also-a-medical-expert-of-some-sort would adopt an alien from another universe without doing some checkups.
taking blood samples immediately before and immediately after regeneration, and comparing the two. if we're studying the mechanism of regeneration, surely it makes sense to check if there might be some hormones or other chemicals involved.
trying to use an EEG on the kid throughout the regeneration process to see what the brainwaves are like during. this is how she learned that the brain lowkey turns into soup mid-regeneration and you can't really monitor it in any meaningful way.
driving herself insane trying to figure out a way to detect and measure five-dimensional objects from a three-dimensional perspective (failed).
measuring the kid's estrogen and testosterone levels, and sex chromosomes, after regenerations that involved switching sexes, to figure out the extent of the apparent sex change. the idea of being able to spontaneously switch sexes would have been seriously groundbreaking, maybe society-breaking, in ancient gallifrey, so surely tecteun's shit-disturbing scientist ass would have been like YO?? about this.
taking fucktons of notes on how the kid behaved post-regeneration. which symptoms showed up most frequently, which symptoms only happened once, etc., that sort of thing. since tecteun was planning to induce this sort of thing in herself eventually, obviously she'd have to get familiar with what might happen if she were to succeed.
not exactly the scientific method, but i feel like tecteun noticed the kid eating weird stuff that gallifreyans don't eat, and was like "this kid seems way too old to still be in the sticking-random-stuff-in-their-mouth-for-no-reason phase" and decided to dare the kid to eat plastic or something just to see if they would. this proved zero hypotheses and yielded zero valuable data. the kid did, in fact, eat plastic. they eat plastic of their own accord without tecteun's intervention. yum :)
so we know tecteun's experiments did involve killing the kid, multiple times. i wonder how many of those incidents occurred because tecteun was trying to test how durable they were. evidently they were much more durable than any gallifreyan, but they also had to have some sort of physical limit, as proven by the fact that they regenerated from falling off a cliff. surely tecteun would want to get a more precise idea of how tough this fuckass alien really is. how tolerant are they to all the most common causes of death for gallifreyan marines at the war front?
with tecteun's utter lack of impulse control, i bet she tried like, touching the kid's hands or something while they were mid-regeneration. to see if all the glowing indicated a change in temperature or not. you better believe she burned the shit outta her hands doing this.
vivisection :)

committing to the bit of rassilon having siblings (specifically of olyes being his paternal half-sister) and coming up with headcanons about her will have me putting this woman in borderline gender-reversed game of thrones situations. fuck a cliché innocent younger sister archetype, she's plotting the assassination of some baby who could displace her in the house fordfarding line of succession. she got the same scheming ass evil politician genes as her brother
you might think the "prydonius family being part of house fordfarding + rassilon growing up poor despite having an aunt who's nobility + rassilon's unnamed wife was tecteun" canonwelding doesn't leave much room for including the thing about rassilon and omega having some sort of family connection, but i say we don't know who olyes's husband / pekkary's father was. so we don't know he WASN'T from house arca.
yup that's right i am adding "rassilon's sister was married to a relative of omega" to the absolute fuckassery that is this backstory i will eventually post on tumblr
What were your thoughts behind the catchall name "Kaleva" for the Other 🤔
And what do think was the reason behind Rassilon joining the military to fight in the Vampire Wars (assuming we're talking about the pre-revolution war timeline) surely it couldn't have just been patriotism?
On the name Kaleva: So my first thought was "I don't think I can pull off not giving them a proper name, it just won't work with my writing style," so I had to give them A Name. I was originally calling them Thaxa, which is not a real name and means nothing but (a) sounds cool and (b) is similar to Theta, but then I stumbled across someone else calling them Thasia(? iirc) and realized I might come off as ripping off that person. So then I decided that whatever name I assign to this character should have some sort of Character-Appropriate Meaning, and just started looking through random names on behindthename.com until it ultimately came down to either (a) Cardea (Roman goddess of thresholds and change), or (b) Kaleva (Finnish; name of the mythological ancestor of the Finnish people, but the original name meaning is unknown). Went with Kaleva because it sounds cool and felt thematically appropriate on a few levels (even though the Time Lords do not seem to be particularly Finnish).
On Rassilon joining the military: I think it was at least partly patriotism, especially since the timeline I go with has the war starting when Rassilon was really young, so all that wartime propaganda is the kinda stuff he would have grown up with. There could also have been an element of wanting to break the military glass ceiling as well; someone has to show the world that men can fight wars just as well as women! I think there's a solid chance he would have enlisted even if Tecteun wasn't in the picture... ...But Tecteun and the Neo-Technologists were a big factor. They were planning a revolution, but there was just no way they were going to be able to pull that off with the war still raging in full force. And the space fleet way out at the war front didn't have much communication with the Homeworld, so if Tecteun and her team fucked off to the front to try and end the war, they'd also be able to plot a coup away from the eyes and ears of the government. Rassilon, being part of Tecteun's squad by this point, was included in this "we all have to fuck off to the war front now lol" plan. And also Rassilon probably liked the optics of being half of Gallifrey's first married military couple.
(with unconstrained lust and heart shaped pupils) hey. I liked your wordplay.
started headcanoning that rassilon went to prison at some point before the revolution as a half-joke but now it's just an unironic headcanon. like in that kind of political environment surely any activist and shit-disturber worth their salt had to have done time right
once again bored at work, anyone wanna send asks 👀
