so imagine this. a matryoshka doll. the outer shell is the doctor who fandom as a whole, and inside somewhere is a rather small doll we will label "the academy era". it rattles when you shake it, and the cause is a very small doll inside. this is the deca fandom. I am in there and I am very loud. if you are a fan of doctor who but don't know what I'm talking about, I have this post and reblog outlining the basics and canonical info about deca appearances, and another with my personal headcanons added. I cannot really make a post definitively summing things up in a way that is understandable to everyone, as each fan has a different set of knowledge—if you have any specific questions about the deca OR academy era content, do not hesitate to send me an ask (anon or otherwise) and I will try to answer to the best of my ability. I do not know everything.
also: if you have your own deca headcanons, questions about my interpretations of the deca, headcanons about academy era thoschei and so on and so forth—feel free to send me an ask or to ping me or whatever! most of my deca/academy era posts are under #hp's deca shite, but some of the posts there are old and suck. here be dragons!
please do not dm me on discord or on tumblr, it's very anxiety inducing for me!
serious stuff: a list of fandom/fanfic squicks would be too long to go here, and I don't think a DNI list would do much, so I generally run on the rule that if I'm getting multiple posts on my dash (from a specific person) that I can't agree with/squicks me—I'll block.
social media: I don't use most social media (and my instagram is only open to people I know well) but you can find my goodreads here

name trivia: my nickname (hp) is not to do with the magic books that I will not name, those are my initials! I used to be called HPSauce2005 on a few sites (I found the fact I shared initials with the brown sauce brand very funny at 12), and my first online friends shortened it to hp (or HP). it stuck. Leela Ross is also an alias I use online, it's just a real name version of 'leelarots'.
other trivia:
- I'm part polish (half if we want to be unspecific about genetics), so you might see me post occasionally about polish food. It's how I connect with my heritage.
- I talk a lot. a LOT. I've managed to perfect the art of cutting down how much I type in texts over the years but on tumblr I let myself off the leash a bit.
- I plan on going into science (marine biology) so sometimes I do nerd out on my blog over science. I like the phylum cnidaria in particular.
- although I have things in common with people who have autism or ADHD, I am diagnosed with neither and do not wish to mislead people into thinking I am.
tag etiquette on my blog:
I do occasionally reblog suggestive posts (usually lighthearted/joke posts that reference sex). If you want to avoid this, block #suggestive, #nsft, #implied nsfw.
the tag #this post is lighthearted in nature is what it says on the tin. If I think my tone could be misconstrued, I pop this tag on so that it's clearer that I'm not angry.
you also may want to block the tags #cw suicide mention and #vent.
I try to tag some triggers, namely #flashing, #rb bait, and #tw blood. if you have anything you would like me to specifically tag for filtering purposes, please do ask.

I get in theory why people complain about het ships or whatever, I get wanting to watch queer media I really do, but I guess where y’all lose me is like. I saw some asshole on a post about Sinners complaining it was “hetslop”—this person was specifically doing so while also claiming Remmick was a queer character and thus they were justified in caring more about him than the Black protagonists. which is a whole other disgusting can of worms that has been well addressed by others at this point. but even in the absence of that part of the argument, like, no, i actually don’t think that a hunger for queer stories is an especially good excuse to deride and dismiss a piece of landmark Black filmmaking, especially as a non-Black person. I have a post that’s been going around encouraging folks to engage with more Native stories and characters, and I had someone come onto that post saying in the tags that they’d need these stories to be queer in order to care. and I just think that, you know, sucks! like obviously as a queer Native I also want to see more of those stories too. but idk how else to put it other than to say that Black people and people of color shouldn’t have to be like you in order for you to care about our narratives and experiences. and I think some of y’all are using this disdain for heterosexuality as a cover for your unexamined racial biases. it’s not okay to be racist to people just because those people happen to be straight, and you continue to be white before you are queer.
on an even more basic level than that, also, I simply just think some of y’all NEED to learn how to interact with media and storytelling without ships and fandom in mind. like if not being able to write fic about two men kissing is genuinely going to be a dealbreaker for you I think that’s actually something you need to work on within yourself because at that point I think you’re no longer really interacting with art and themes and narrative so much as just kind of playing with toys. which is, like, fine I guess. have fun. but it wouldn’t kill you to disengage from that from time to time. especially if would allow you to actually appreciate rich and deeply moving cultural stories from communities of color that you desperately need to learn how to see as human
I honestly think Gen-Z and younger simply does not understand how recent widespread smartphone adoption is.
I am not that old, and I didn't have a smartphone until probably late high school. For most of my life, many if not most people were not walking around with a magic internet machine in their pocket that they pulled out and used constantly for everything.
I love the canon quantum superposition the doctor exists in at all times. a character that has at least five different origins, is married, is asexual, has children, a planet that exists and doesn’t, has a human mother, came out of a loom, is from another dimension, stories that have happened multiple ways in different mediums. and it’s not “time travel retconned that previous story” or “that happened in a different timeline” all these things happened together overlapping in imperfect and conflicting ways and yet it all works
need a hat that says I WONT SPEAK UNLESS SPOKEN TO AND ITS NOT BECAUSE IM DISINTERESTED AND DONT LIKE YOU I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND SOCIAL INTERACTION AS WELL AS MOST PEOPLE AND ASSUME BY DEFAULT MY PRESENCE IS UNWELCOME AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE SO I KEEP TO MYSELF BUT I DONT MIND IF YOU INITIATE so i can wear it to work
I do appreciate what lore welders do and don’t begrudge the fun in trying to make doctor who at least somewhat coherent but it does rub me the wrong way when newish fans then get misled into thinking popular fan theories are actual text
and I’m not saying that to privilege certain parts of doctor who “canon” above others. I genuinely believe the “it’s all canon” and/or “doctor who has no canon” but like I say in my other post that goes around: no one is required to remember or incorporate all of it.
To use a tv show example: there are now two versions of The War Games. One where the War Chief is a time lord the Doctor knows and one where he’s all but stated to be the Master. Both of these are “canon” as far as I’m concerned, but to go on tardis.wiki and say definitively the War Chief is the Master would be wrong. It’s the quantum superposition I was talking about the other day. The War Chief is and isn’t the master and there are eu works that approach it both ways. The existence of one doesn’t erase or retcon the other and everyone gets to pick and choose what they want. Hell hold both in your mind based on whatever’s fun that day.
I think we do a disservice to new fans when we directly or indirectly imply that doctor who has a more coherent narrative than it does.
