On cultural appropriation...
First off, this is NOT a 'reverse racism' type of thing. But it really does bother me that a lot of white girls and celebrities get called out for appropriating cultures and a lot of black girls' appropriation flies under the radar. Sometimes, it is a case of the artist being simply better known and therefore receiving more backlash... But sometimes it's not. I just feel like there is a 'trend' where people have been getting high on being the ones to call out those 'ignorant white girls' FOR CALLING OUT WHITE GIRLS AS OPPOSED TO ACTUALLY FOCUSING ON THE CULTURAL APPROPRIATION PART. That has become just an excuse, a lot of times. As a person with native american heritage, I would like to see appropriation of my culture called out WHENEVER it happens, whatever ethnicity the offender is, because THIS ISN'T JUST ABOUT BLACK GIRLS, by the way. OF COURSE not. It's just that black and white presence in mainstream media is bigger, and so these were the examples I could find. But that's exactly my point: cultural appropriation has been done by people of all classes and ethnicities and cultural backgrounds and it is sadly becoming a 'normal' thing. Please treat this subject with the seriousness it deserves as opposed to being just another 'social blogger' who thinks you're so cool for calling out white girls on their dumb shit.
