More than 100 people are sharing their personal abortion stories.

On Tuesday, over 100 people are set to share their personal stories about abortion as part of the 1 in 3 campaign to end the stigma and shame surrounding abortion.

Now 30, Rosha says she wanted to speak out about her experience to open up about the realities about abortion — especially in places where abortion is still stigmatized."This campaign to me is a means to make the topic of abortion less taboo and inform the general public about the realities of an abortion," she says. "A way to make members of congress aware of how regulation impacts average people like myself and maybe make them think twice before they vote based on feelings or beliefs instead of facts."

Inspired by real abortion stories, Out of Silence: Abortion Stories from the 1 in 3 Campaign confronts the cacophony of polarizing political rhetoric that surrounds abortion and instead asks us to listen to the voices of women and to explore with them the situations, relationships, emotions and logistics that contextualize their decisions to seek abortion care.

Composed of a series of vignettes Out of Silence is at times heartbreaking, funny, and even commonplace but always thought provoking and honest.

With threats to abortion and reproductive rights on the rise, I wanted to make sure you knew about an exciting live podcast recording at SXSW where people will share their personal abortion stories in an effort to pivot the conversation away from the political and back to the personal. 

Activists from Advocates for Youth’s 1 in 3 Campaign will join Lady Parts Justice’s “Repro Madness,” a podcast hosted by Julie Rosing and Lizz Winstead, co-creator and former head writer of The Daily Show and co-founder of Lady Parts Justice. The podcast will also include a celebrity interview and will record on Tuesday, March 18 at 5pm at the SXSW Podcast Stage at the JW Marriott Austin.

The recording taking place in Texas, featuring Texans, is especially significant given the Supreme Court’s Whole Women’s Health vs. Hellerstedt ruling which struck down a restrictive Texas abortion law just last summer. More so, Texas continues to make national headlines with new restrictive bills, including several pieces of legislation currently being considered by the Texas legislature.
