HOND OC!!
OC LORE!! TLDR section is at the bottom. Please forgive me if its bad, or if theres any mistakes.
Catherine Lemaire was the 27 year old wife of the politician Henri Jamaire. Henri was widely known for his open campaigning against Dom Claude Frollo and his undying attempts to seize Frollo’s position as Minister of Justice. Yet, he wasn't the one making these choices, despite what Henri may think. The one telling him what to preach, what strategies to use and how, the one writing his speeches, his edicts, his debates, was Catherine. She would, of course, make him believe they were somehow his idea, or she was simply being helpful, as to keep his ego large and him feeling important. It was a highly gossiped fact that she married for money and status, and she got what she strove for, that much was true. Yet, Catherine was anything but happy with her marriage, and her situation as a whole. The man of her faux desire remained irritable, incompetent, inconsiderate, and saw her as nothing but an accessory, marking the day they met. Something he can use, something to do the housekeeping, and something to tend to his every whim.
Being born from a half Romani mother and a white, absent father, Catherine had to rise to power through struggle. Catherine, being born with the blessing of being white passing in a time of cruelty and hate, was told sternly and persistently by her mother, prior to her untimely execution over the petty theft of food ordered by the hands of Dom Claude Frollo, to harness that power. So she did. One year after her mothers death, at 20, she married into wealth. It was in part to appease her mother, even in the grave, but it was deeper than that. Catherine always dreamed of being a politician, to make a change, to better the situations for people like her mother and her people; Marrying Henri was the closest she could get to that, as dimwhitted as the man was. Her already simmering hatred for Frollo began to fester into a deep, carnal sense of hatred. Frollo was a man who rose from riches, not knowing the struggle and pain of those who he continuously misfortunes, and he has everything to show for his ignorance and hatred. Catherine can't help but let jealousy and hatred overcome her, jealousy over the man being born with an advantage being born wealthy, white and male, jealousy over the man's position, and jealousy over the man's freedom.
After years and years of marriage, at 27 years of marriage, Catherine has enough. She herself wasn't sure what had caused it, what had tipped her over the edge. Perhaps it was one too many passive insults, one too many slaps or punches, one too many nights of her being used as a warm body next to him, it was anybody's guess, Catherine began poisoning his food. His state deteriorated within weeks. They went from doctor to doctor, searching for cures for his ‘illness’ all while Catherine had to force her bile down and feign concern and sorrow, yet she was the one who had the arsenic in the back of their cabinet. After his eventual death, the body was found by a member of the guard under the guise of a welfare check, a frequent occurrence since Henri’s condition had left him bedridden. People would do anything for money. It took little work for Catherine to convince the guard to announce her death alongside Henri's. She traveled to Spain's countryside equipped with a great deal of money. She went somewhere where nobody would know her name, not that she'd give her real one, anyhow. She found a secluded farm in which she offered to work in exchange for shelter, not wanting to draw attention to herself by renting or buying a place of residence, wanting to disappear entirely. Despite the undoubtedly strange situation, a woman clad in rich cloth asking for work as a farm hand, they gave her their charity.
She stayed there for two years, two years of hard work in the sun. One night, Catherine decided it was enough time to travel back to France. In the dead of night, she cut her hair short and boyish and set out in the carriage she had brought with her, a rickety one that Henri had owned in youth, long past its prime. She used the money she had brought with her, a small fortune, in truth, to purchase male clothing. She laid low in Paris for months, in part to wait for the tan she had built up to fade, before taking the rest of her old fortune, which she had stashed in the woods, purchasing a mansion and finally presenting herself in her new persona. Bastien Lenoir, a rich male politician who came from a life of travel, attempting to steal Dom Claude Frollo's title as Minister of Justice and openly campaigning against the zealoted man. The rest hasn't been figured out, but she later gets with my friends oc, Isabeau, a nun of Notre Dame.
TLDR: Catherine was the wife of a politician who campaigned openly against Frollo for his title, but she was the one pulling the strings. After having enough of his abusive nature, she poisons him and bribes a guard to pronounce them both dead, as opposed to just him, and flees France to a farm in Spain, working for shelter. Two years later she goes back to France pretending to be a male, a rich politician, and former traveler, Bastien Lenoir, who attempts to seize Frollo's position as Minister of Justice. She later gets with my friends oc, Isabeau, a nun.
