the execution of lady jane grey | paul delaroche 1833

lady jane, also known as the “nine days queen” was thrust unto the throne at the behest of her father in law and a dying teen king. after little more than a week, the government switched their allegiances, and appointed mary as their queen. lady grey, approximately 16-17 years of age, was imprisoned almost immediately, and was executed, just after her husband. a child, who wanted nothing to do with power, was forced to accept it, had it taken away, and was then killed for it.
