i've lived in east tennessee for my entire life i just feel kind of numb. the imagination library has delivered hundreds of millions of books to kids not just in tennessee but all over the world and she started it because her dad never learned to read or write. her my people fund donated over 9 million dollars and assisted nearly a thousand families in the wake of the smoky mountains wildfires in 2016. dollywood created so many jobs for people in poverty in sevier county. she's given away thousands of dollars in scholarships to tennessee high schoolers who couldn't afford college otherwise and her buddy program made sevier county's drop-out rate go down to six percent. she raised money for the american red cross and donated so much to charities dedicated to helping people with hiv and aids. she spoke out in support of the lgbt community often, particularly the trans community after so much transphobic legislature was passed in tennessee the last few years. she donated to cancer research and hospitals and hurricane relief and vaccine research and development and she did all of it because she saw how much people can love each other and how good the world can be and she did everything she could to make it better

Dolly Parton could have been a billionaire 3 times over but actively chose to give her money away to cause after cause for charity. She was an incredible musician and artist but more importantly lived with compassion and kindness and with the drive to help those around her in every way she could. God I’m sad. The world lost one one of the greats today :(
