“And at the instant he knew, he ceased to know”
Name: Skipperdoodle

Quote: Passions are everything.
I used pictures of architecture/objects that remind me of traveling, stuff that I found on the beach, the ocean and books as my materials because I am very passionate about all them. I find that my passions primarily run and motivate my life that is why I chose this quote.

title: the holy trinity
"Your rhythm makes it light and explode" Roan Bontempo
The words of my project are emphasized through each of the materials used like ‘your rhythm’ mimicking music notes on a guitar, the ‘light’ phrase actually being made of projected light, and the ‘explode’ made of string lit on fire acting as a fuse.

“Pura Vida” literally means “Pure Life”
Materials: Found leaves, flowers, berries, rocks, and sticks
Besides the fact that this phrase means pure life, it has other connotations. It is popular greeting and farewell among natives of Costa Rica, where the meaning stems from the country’s way of life by living purely from the Earth, living sustainably, and just enjoying life. This is why I chose to use materials and backgrounds that are solely from nature.

“Don’t Worry, Just Breathe”
I chose anti-anxiety medication to imply that no matter how you do it, its important that you don’t worry too much as its unhealthy and can cause physical health problems as well.

“Will you still love me tomorrow”
I chose the lyrics “Will you still love me tomorrow,” an Amy Winehouse cover, because Amy Winehouse is my all time favorite artist and her rendition of the song makes me feel very emotional. To me the lyrics represent an unknown of a relationship in the future, all the trust in a relationship, and the uncertainty of asking the question, “will you still love me tomorrow?”
The materials: Flowers and dried rose pedals.
The reason why I started with bright colors(White, Yellow, and pink) and ending it with dried rose pedals was to represent the feeling of becoming uneasy when asking “will you still love me tomorrow?”, but using the dried rose pedals also represent my relationship, since the roses were given to my by my boyfriend.
Esteban Pereda
The phrase I chose is “Believe You Can” the reason why is because anything is possible as long as you believe that you can do something. I related this to my life because at first I didn’t think that I would make it to college because I didn’t think that I would afford it. Believe is created with Money, the “you” is materials that are important to have in college, and “Can” is with clothes that I bought here at UCSC representing that I made it to college.
“alone free”

I chose this saying for a number of reasons. The versatility of the pairing alone and free may seem odd at first, but without a word to connect them in context to each other, they could mean any number of things. Alone but free, alone and free, alone or free... In my life, i often feel alone, but in that solidarity i find absolute tranquility. I am freed by being by myself, and that has made all the difference for me.
alone: rotted wood - the decaying of life can seem lonely, but death is all around. no one is truly alone in the things they exist in.
free: shoelace on tree - the shoelace exhibits the opportunity to be any anything, one’s will can take them anywhere.
"To burn out forever, or light up the dark"
Melissa Ortiz
For one I chose this quote because they are lyrics in a song that I have been listening to lately, and with finals coming up I find it harder and harder to stay motivated and study. Material wise the only words I thought through more were "burn" (I wrote it in watercolor on my arm to look like a burn), and "dark" (which I wanted to show as a light and dark contrast). All of the other words I made from nature I found around Porter.
Death Delivers A Beautiful Sin
Jasmine Mizrahi
I came up with this quote after I thought about how prominent the theme of religion is and how historically it has capitalized on the idea of death and how it is extremely ritualistic. In order to capture the importance of each word, I incorporated a religious aspect in ever photograph. For “death”, I used wine (Last Supper with 7 Disciples) and pills-a modern, yet ironic twist to the theme of my project and for “delivers” I used wood and painted it red in order to signify blood(both tie into the picture for beautiful and A). For “A”, I used a choker and string which historically symbolizes another mode of forced death in order to hang someone. For “beautiful”, I used the string and wood from the previous picture and tied it around the cross which represents the execution of Jesus Christ and the picture I drew signifies the audience and the actual beauty that now surrounds the still life of the execution seen in churches. Lastly, the photo displaying the word “sin” goes back to the “beginning of time” when Adam and Eve took a bite from the fruit of the tree and introduced sin into the world. The blood in the middle of the apple represents the blood G-D shed in order to cover their sins.

#DigitalCollage
The Blacker The Berry Vincent Williams My project explores the phrase and the association between color and worth. I chose to do my project and black and white because I feel like color would have detracted from the clear wording and message.
Alan García, “Family Till The End,” The reason why I chose this quote is because family is a big part of my life and my family owns a cafe where we serve breakfast and lunch. One of the common items to order is bacon and eggs, which is why I choose these materials, but I photographed them in this sequences to represent I have been with my family from the start and I will be there till the end.
