His mother committed suicide when he was a preteen while distressed about all the traumatic things she put her son through.

He hates guard dogs, not dogs in general. Certainly not puppies.
His hatred for God is not unfounded; Mother is a rather fervorous Christian and not the kind to be understanding. Christophe’s existence probably reminds her of her attempted abortion - and the man that had left her pregnant with him.
He’s loyal to those he trusts and can go as far as putting his own life at risk for them.
