correlation does not equal causation dumbasses

I have seen similar posts, but this one has the best charts.
“Is this mountain range affecting the murder rate?” Best response.
When ice cream sales rise, so do rates of drownings. This does not mean ice cream makes you drown.
He holds the laptop like that on purpose, to make you cringe.
You guys want more spurious correlations?
The part that’s so maddening is that it’s not even valid data.
An hour ago, it was 73 degrees outside. Now, it’s just under 22 degrees. Was there a big ass event that caused the temperature to drop? No, I just used an entirely different definition of “degree.”
And that’s exactly the case with autism. The definition of autism in 1983 was very, very limited, had been greatly expanded by 2008, and 2013 was the year that the DSM-V created the diagnosis of “Autism Spectrum Disorder” and brought a whole bunch of conditions under that umbrella.
Rebloging for the comments!!!!
People used to have larger families and it was no surprise to anyone that at least one of the turned out a little odd. I speak from experience, having been an Asperger's kid. (My poor mother!) Being 'odd' wasn't considered a pathology. Today everything is, and once an authority puts a pathology label on someone, their parents panic. Authorities need to lighten up and just let society come to terms with those of us who are a little odd. I happen to have had a highly successful life once I discovered that there was a reason I was a little odd and learned to deal with it.
