BOOK OF THE DAY: The Maze Runner by James Dashner

The Maze Runner was published in the midst of the dystopian craze, which occurred a couple of years ago. Although not as quick-paced as The Hunger Games series, it posses an extremely unique plot full of potential and twists. Now, before we begin, we will warn you that this is the most unique experience we ever had reading a book. Not everybody will love it, but nobody will find it mediocre by any means because it is extremely thought provoking and it makes you incredibly anxious. From the beginning of The Maze Runner, you are hooked, James Dasher creates the ultimate cryptic labyrinth where questions are unnecessary and endurance is the only method of living.
Its main protagonist, Thomas wakes up in an elevator and is blindly thrown into a confined environment known as the glade. His memories have been wiped, Thomas has no recollection of anything other than his name. Let to fend for themselves, Thomas and 60 other boys must make a new home. Think Lord of the Flies in this situation; these kids are helpless, desperate to find life and unaware of what to do at every turn.
Learning to survive becomes ordinary in Thomas’ life. Until one a day the first girl ever arrives at the Glade. She delivers an ominous message. This is all we know for more than half of the book. Dasher works exceptionally hard to provide us with a suspenseful story until the last 100 pages. Thomas constantly poses questions and none of them are answered. Think of Lost here. The glade is an extremely f*cked up Jacob. Do not worry, the ending of the story redeems this. As the book picks up and becomes action-paced and wildly mysterious, escaping the glade is the one desire running in everybody’s veins. Although the beginning of the novels moves slow, trust us, we promise you will be itching to read the next book, The Scorch Trials. If you are tired of reading sappy sh!t and mindless love triangles, give this a try!

This picture was taken by photographer James Synder. He says “This is a Cuban tree frog on a tree in my backyard in southern Florida. How and why he ate this light is a mystery. It should be noted that at the time I was taking this photo, I thought this frog was dead, having cooked himself from the inside. I’m happy to say I was wrong. After a few shots he adjusted his position. So after I was finished shooting him, I pulled the light out of his mouth and he was fine. Actually, I might be crazy but I don’t think he was very happy when I took his light away.”
