Lady Phantasme. Responsible for the Masque against the Red Death movement which has made masks a recognized political statement. Loves eighteenth- and nineteenth-century fashion inspiration. Believes any institutional authority whatosever is the root of all evil. Absolutely do not trust her with a Death Note. So far, she's had a very minor role as the black sheep of Tanakabara's flock, but now might be her moment to take center stage.
Montag. When he was nine years old, he was a smart kid with enough athletic ability to run with the local bully pack. That was the year a six-year-old L left him sprawled on the ground with a dislocated shoulder and physically knocked sense into him. He then was allowed to stay on at the orphanage until graduation. These days, he's a highbrow who likes to tell himself he's past all that, but his catbird seat in the ronin movement speaks for itself.
Takada. She's been as passionate about Kira as you'd expect, but Kira's continued alliance with Higuchi may have given her doubts. On the other hand, Tanakabara's informal heir Bigwiggins has just had her temporarily detained and ejected from NHN. What she's actually thinking right now is anybody's guess, but maybe @god-ofthenewworld has info to which I am not privy.
Mello. He hasn't even been alluded to yet! Go nuts!

i don‘t care what canon says, in fact, i don‘t even know what canon says.
wammy‘s is home for the boys, at least to some extent. this is what they know, what they have known for (probably?) most if not a large part of their lives. whenever i imagine what life would‘ve been like at the orphanage, i see children having fun, adults caring for them lovingly, teachers mentoring those kids and so on. what i remember from canon is this sad, gray building filled with irritating people and the only flashbacks we get to that place are traumatic ones, like when news broke of L‘s passing or when mello hit that fucking child on it‘s head and then laughed about it, like what was that. so incredibly funny to me.
anyways, what i want to say is that canon gave us a very one sided view of the wammy‘s house. in the end it is what it is, a place where children reside. and you can‘t un-fun children. of course you can put them into hostile environments where having fun gets you punished BUT wammy‘s is obviously not that. they care for these kids, they want what‘s best for them, so they give them certain freedoms like playing football and letting them get away with giving another child a concussion. i mean, wherever there are children, there will be fun and mello was a child! i love imagining him having fun, i love it sooo much

In which a Kira who basically rules Japan already disguises himself to win the trust of Koki Tanakabara (Most Exposed Identity In Japan), takes him in completely, and still can't actually turn the situation to his favor because Tanakabara's insistence on Principles and Prudence and Consistent Narrative keep getting in the way
Please, for the love of all that is holy, stop pretending that anything can make people "subhuman". Evil is human. People who do evil are human. They do not stop being human because you disagree with them. They do not stop being human because they do despicable and terrible things. They are human, just like you. You are human, just like them.
Oh, and people don't stop being human because of what they believe, either. No matter how much you disagree with them.

Yes, hating him is definitely the norm. While, simultaneously, finding him an incredibly compelling character. In the modern fandom, you can (and usually do) have both.
