CHEERING and roaring filled the air and echoed through your chest like thunder. The kind of sound that made everything feel bigger than life.
Even in the VIP section, even with comfortable seats and a perfect view of the field it still felt overwhelming. The lights were brighter up close, the screens impossibly huge, the crowd a sea of jerseys and waving arms.
You sat between your sister and your mom, leather jacket halfway zipped, hands tucked into the sleeves like you were trying to ground yourself. The air smelled like popcorn and something smoky from the food stands and the cold buzz of anticipation sat right under your skin.
Your sister, Andrea, (peep the name) glanced over, immediately clocking your behavior “You’re nervous.”
You scoffed, turning toward her with a look. “I’m not nervous. I’m… appropriately excited.” She gave you a look like she’d known you your entire life…..which, unfortunately, she had.
“I am serious,” you insisted, lips twitching. “I’m literally fine. I’m just sitting at the Super Bowl like it’s a casual Sunday waiting for my boyfriend to PERFORM.”
Your mom smiled softly, leaning closer, her voice warm over the noise. “It’s okay to be nervous mija. This is a big night.” You nudged her shoulder playfully. “Mom, you’re the one who’s been taking deep breaths like you’re about to go on stage.”
She gasped, almost offended. “That is not true.” Andrea immediately pointed at her. “It is true. She’s been doing the little inhale exhale thing since we sat down.”
Your mom pressed a hand to her chest, trying to look dignified. “I’m just… emotionally present.” You laughed, the sound getting swallowed by the stadium anyway. “Emotionally present. Okay.”
Your dad sat on your other side, posture relaxed, watching the field with that quiet focus he always had. “It’s a big night for him,” he said calmly.
You leaned back exaggeratedly.
“Thank you, Dad. Very insightful.”
Andrea burst out laughing, almost spilling her drink. His mouth twitched, the closest thing he ever gave to a grin. “I’m just stating facts.”
That was the thing about your parents. They weren’t the type to scream or make a big deal out of things. They didn’t get starstruck. They’d been to big events, met impressive people.
But they were here because they cared. Because Benito mattered to you and that meant he mattered to them too.
Andrea pulled out her phone, not paying much attention to the game, it was already second quarter and Benito would come out soon.
“I’m just saying,” she muttered, “my sister dating THE Conejo Malo is still the craziest sentence I’ve ever lived through.”
You rolled your eyes at her statement. “Oh my God, can you not? You act like I planned this.”
She grinned, not even looking up. “Did you not?”
“Quit.” you laughed. “I did not sit down one day and go, ‘Hmm… I think I’ll date a global superstar for fun.’” Your mom laughed quietly, the sound soft and genuine.
You nodded immediately, because that part was true in the simplest way. “He is. Like, annoyingly kind. It’s almost irritating.” You cross your arms holding in a laugh.
Andrea blinked, finally looking up. “Girl, what?”You shrugged, smiling.
“I’m serious. He holds doors, he says please, he thanks waiters. Like… who does he think he is?” (No cause he seems like such a gentleman actually…)
Your mom’s smile widened. “A good man.” Your dad nodded once. “He’s respectful. And by the looks of it he works hard.”
You looked over at your dad nodding as your smile grew wider“I know I know, I’m beyond blessed.”
Andrea blinked. “Okay wait… are we doing the parent approval thing right now?” Your dad glanced over, amused despite himself. “Don’t push it.”
You gasped dramatically, hand to your chest.
“Don’t push it? Dad, he literally called you sir the first time he met you. He was terrified.” Andrea cackled. “He really was.”
“He wanted you both to like him.” You smiled, warmth spreading through your chest, because you remembered that too. The way Benito had tried so hard, not with flashy gestures but with sincerity.
They liked a lot... Not because he was famous but because he was him
Around you the game surged on crowds rising, music blasting between plays and the stadium alive with motion. But underneath it all you felt the countdown ticking closer.
Once the second quarter ended the stadium shifted. Not in a chaotic way more like a collective inhale. The producers rolled out all the props and escorted the dancers onto the field
Andrea leaned back in her seat calmer now, her phone resting in her lap. “Here we go!!” She squealed excitedly.
You exhaled, lips curling slightly before your mom’s hand found yours squeezing once.
“He’s going to do amazing,” she said gently. “Even if it’s a stadium full of people.” Your dad nodded, eyes steady on the field. “He’s ready. He wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t.”
You glanced at them, amused. “You two are being very… composed.” Andrea gave you a look. “We know he’s good. This is just…a bigger stage.” Your mom nodded and smiled softly.
The screens flickered as the Apple Music logo showed onto the large screens. Stage pieces moved into place with precision. The stadium didn’t seem to excited for the performance but you were and that’s all that mattered.
The roar was instant as he stated the show off with Titi Me Prefunto.
Benito appeared on the screens like he belonged there completely, moving with that effortless confidence that always made it look easy. The performance swept through the stadium in flashes. music and energy from some people in the stands
Your mom’s expression softened. “He looks happy,” she whispered. Your dad’s gaze stayed fixed, calm but impressed in the way he didn’t need to announce.
Andrea nodded once. “Hell yeah. He’s locked in.”
It didn’t last long. It wasn’t drawn out. It was sharp and powerful but over before you could fully process it.
Flags from every Latin American country were being waved down the field with Benito leading the way. you just stood there, heart full while watching him completely in his element.
before you could even settle back into your seat, a staff member appeared at the end of your row.
“Mr. Martínez asked for you and your family. If you’ll come with me.”
Your mom adjusted her coat while Andrea fell into step beside you, a lot quieter and more serious now, like she understood this wasn’t a moment for chaos and jokes.
The hallways beneath the stadium were calmer and insulated from the noise above. Footsteps echoed softly as security nodded while you and your family passed.
Finally, you stopped outside a guarded door. The producer knocked before the door swung open.
Warm light spilled out and inside was a private room, a few people moving around quietly with headsets and clipboards.
And then Benito turned. His hair was slightly messy, face still glowing with adrenaline as his eyes immediately finding yours.
Everything in him softened.
“Hola hermosa” he breathed, his voice low
You crossed the room without thinking and he met you halfway, arms wrapping around you before pressing a long kiss to your lips.
“You were amazing,” you murmured pulling away
He let out a quiet laugh, almost disbelieving. “I don’t even know what just happened.” You pulled back just enough to look at him.
“You did it. You were incredible.” Your mom stepped forward, warm and steady.
“Felicitationes, Benito.” He nodded respectfully. “Thank you, señora.”
“Congratulations; Benito.”
Your dad offered his hand. “Muy buen trabajo muchacho.” Benito shook it, his expression sincere.
“You did a great job kid”
“Mucha gracias señor, el apoyo de ustedes significa mucho para mi.” He stepped back and wrapped his arm around you.
“Thank you sir, your support means so much to me.”
“No really you did great, Y/n over here was totally gawking the whole time” Andrea joked as she playfully nudged your moms shoulder.
Your mom glanced at you, then back at him. “We’ll let you breathe. We should get back before we miss the rest of the game. Amonos andrea.”
Your dad nodded before teasingly pulling your sister to his side “We’ll be upstairs.” Andrea gave you a small look before walking out with your parents.
Then they were gone and escorted back toward the stands. The room felt quieter the second the door closed. He exhaled, shoulders dropping for the first time all night. “I was holding my breath.” he admitted.
You tilted your head. “Amorrr.” He laughed softly.
“No, I’m serious. Yo estaba bien right before I went out. And then it hit me.”
You reached up, smoothing your hand over his cheek, grounding him. “You were completely in it.”
He nodded, eyes steady. “I didn’t want to miss a second. I wanted to be present.” For a second the noise of the stadium above felt far away.
“Me hizo feliz saber que tú y tu familia estaban aquí… pero aún más feliz estar contigo ahora.”
“It made me happy knowing you and your family were here… but even happier to be with you now.”
You smiled, thumb brushing his jaw. “I’m always going to be here.” His forehead tipped gently toward yours, intimate and careful.
“I kept thinking about after,” he admitted. “About getting to come back and find you.”
A voice called his name from across the room. someone from the production team reminding him of the next steps. Benito sighed reluctantly but his arms stayed wrapped around you.
“Tengo que ir mami,” he murmured while pressing soft kisses to your lips. “Then I’m coming with you.” His eyes flickered with soft relief
“Tas segura nena?” You smiled. “Yeah. I’m not leaving your side tonight.”
He squeezed your hand once. “Está bien preciosa,” he said with a small grin.
“Por qué hablar con tus padres todavía me pone nervioso..? not to mention your sister…” he let out a an exaggerated exhale.
“Why does talking to your parents still make me nervous”
You laughed softly. “You’ll get used to it…eventually.”
He shook his head while chuckling. “Si si, ‘eventually.’ ahí me tienes.”
