Mj paused mid sentence, smile drifting slightly at the look of Maddie’s suddenly hurt face.

“Stop…what?” She asked. Confused, she tried to bring the mood back up with a awkward chuckle

Maddie frowned, the curly haired girl was just as confused as the other.

She looked away, to hurt to look her directly in the eye, “You know what.” She seemed almost heartbroken.

Mj scoffed slightly, her attempt to lighten the mood now tossed into the can as she now looked a bit more frustrated.

“No, I don’t. What’s wrong?”

Nervously she toyed with the strap of her backpack, twirling it between her fingers. The pit in her stomach making her feel sick.

“Well, it’s just…” she paused, eyes looking everywhere but her face “For someone who made it so clear we’re just friends and that friends is all we’ll ever be…”

maddie let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.

“You keep flirting with me.”

Mj found herself too stunned to speak. Maddie had never been so upfront before, which made it even more painful to hear.

She opened her mouth to speak before closing it again,
