Snowbird Valentine’s Surprise
For once, Atlas wasn’t extremely cold. They say love is in the air on Valentine’s, though for two people, it would shine true. Despite their relationship and times, they have butted heads, Winter and Qrow never really hated each other. After their breakfast talk, they discovered that it was never anything to fight over. Though her work was still keeping her busy. Always on her feet. Qrow, being convinced by his Nieces, to approach her finally. Admitting his feelings towards her and wishing for the best. Weiss and Blake stood with him in the store, picking flowers.
“You do know Winter is known for letting every guy that approaches her down, correct? I just want you know what you are attempting. I know my sister, and she is ruthless when she does it.” Weiss said plainly.
“Weiss, come on now, don’t scare him off. He is already nervous about asking her in the first place.” Blake said to her. “Qrow you will do fine. Weiss is just saying that she is difficult to understand.” She looked around for better flowers, right before Weiss called out.
“I found white lilies! Winter loves these. She only tolerates roses but finds them overrated. She will love these Qrow.” Weiss waltz over to him with the bouquet of white lilies and hands them over to him.
“You really think she will say yes? With my luck-” Qrow started before getting a finger put in front of him to make him stop talking.
“She will love them and yes she will. Just don’t go drinking before you ask her. I wasn’t being serious. You just need to present yourself nicely. And I have to say the new clothes that they gave us are great. You will do just fine.” Weiss told him with a smile.” Remember, 7:30pm is when she gets off.”
“You will do great Qrow.” Blake added.
“Right..okay. 7:30..” He said to himself as they walked up to the counter and bought the flowers along with a necklace Weiss had bought prior to their trip for flowers.
The three made their way back to the academy and broke off to head to their rooms. Though now Qrow was left to his thoughts and of course keeping the flowers from dying early. He thought about asking her to lunch, though she has been working through her lunch lately, so that was out of the question. Dinner is another option, though it would be late. He decided to at least look up places for dinner. Though he thought about what she would like for dinner that he could cook. “I’ll come up with something.” He sat down on the couch and sighs covering his face once he had put the flowers in a vase of water. With his arm over his face and closing his eye. Soon he closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Winter had worked her usual day, and even had extra work to do. Though, through her lunch, she was finally able to sit down and have a break. She took the time to think about what was said to her earlier that morning.
Harriet and Clover were in the cafeteria eating breakfast. Winter had walked in and went to grab a few fruits for a salad and a water. Though she noticed Clover was waving her over. She raised an eyebrow and decided to walk over and take a seat. “Good Morning Clover, morning Harriet.” She says as she took a knife that she had bought and grabbed the bowl.
“Good Morning Winter. How are you this fine love filled morning.” Clover teased. Hare snorted at the fact he actually said the joke.
Winter stopped cutting her apple and glares up at him. “Excuse me?”
“Well, it is Valentine’s day today you know.” He told her. She took her scroll out to check and her eyes widened some.
‘Dang it. The worse day of the year.’ She thought to herself. “I see.” She continues to slice her fruits and letting them fall in the bowl.
“Do you have someone on your mind Winter? I mean this is the day to learn who likes you or thinking of that one person who you think you don’t like. Like that Branwen guy.” Harriet said to her before she takes a sip of water.
Winter stopped again and frowns. “I have no interest in Branwen or anyone. I would rather focus on my work.” She was very snappy about that and then cleaned her knife off and started eating.
Winter thought over how she felt on Qrow. She did think he was good looking, tall and she didn’t hate him. After their talk at the cafe, they have been relaxed in their relationship. She sighs. She never liked seeing other women around him who obviously wanted him. She frowns and rolled her eyes every time. She wanted him to herself. “What am I think? No that isn’t.. ugh.” She closed her eyes and put her hands over her face. “Not like he would ask anyway.”
After her lunch break and working the rest of day. She came home around 7:15 that evening. She hung her jacket on her clothes hanger, took her boots off and placed her sword on a hook. She goes to her room and immediately goes to grab her clothes and take a shower. Once she gets out and gets dressed, she goes into her living room and sits down on her couch. With a sigh of exhaustion and loneliness, she grabs her book that was under the table and opens it to the last page she was on.
Qrow heard his scroll ringing, which woke him from his slumber. He realized it was Weiss spam calling him until he woke up. He looked at the time and immediately panicked. It was 7:30pm, he was late. “Ah shit.” He quickly answered the call. “I’m up Weiss-”
“YOU ARE LATE! She got off work 15 minutes early Qrow! I swear! If you don’t get going! Clean yourself up and get to her dorm NOW!” Weiss fussed on the phone, with Yang’s voice in the background going “Geez Ice queen chill..”
“Alright, Alright I’m on it, damn..” He mumbled before hearing the call end. He sighs and quickly leapt up and began washing his face and freshening up. He even changed clothes for this occasion. Which would certainly blow her mind. He grabbed the flowers from the vase, finding that she probably had a better vase anyway, dried the bottom so they didn’t drip on the floor and quickly raced out of his room and went to her dorm.
Winter had read 3 chapters by now and closed her book. She knew she needed to decide what to eat for her dinner, though she really didn’t know for once. No one said anything to her all day mostly due to fear. Though she hasn’t even heard from Weiss. She shook her head and decided to stop thinking about it. Winter placed the book back under the table and got up from her couch to go into her kitchen. As she opened the fridge to look inside, she heard a knock at her door. Winter stopped and closed her fridge in confusion.
Qrow who was texting Weiss to inform her that he made it, was also straightening up and holding the flowers behind his back. Winter walked up to the door and unlocked it. When she opened the door, she gasp at Qrow. “Qr-Qrow?”
She was mind blown that he was actually dressed nicely that it made her cheeks burn red. “What..What are you doing here? You are all dressed up and even ....are you wearing Cologne?” Though she realized, Qrow has never seen her with her hair down, it was half way down her back, wavy even.
Qrow was in shock at how beautiful she looked with her hair down. Her bang was perfectly over her left eye.”U-uh hi Ice queen...” He shook his head and clears his throat. “Yeah I am wearing Cologne. I thought it smelt good.” He says shyly as he rubs the back of his neck. “You look... I have never seen your hair down before.”
She looks down for a moment and clears her throat. “Oh Yeah... I let it down in the evenings..”
He knew he needed to snap out of it and straightened up. “Well um Winter, I wanted to...Well you see...oh what the hell. “ He took a deep breath and looked her in the eyes. “I don’t know what it is about you Winter, but I can’t get you out of my mind. After our talk that morning, I get nervous around you. I know you don’t really.. accept other guys, but I thought I would shoot my shot. “ He showed her the lilies. “Will you...be my valentine and if anything, my ice queen?”
Winter was completely speechless and her face was flushed red. “Qrow.... I....” She took the lilies before looking up at him with a gentle smile on her face. One that was a rare sight to see. “Yes...I will. Come in Qrow.” She opened the door to him. He was shocked that she said yes. “W-what.. Really?” He said.
“I wouldn’t lie to you. I don’t play emotions” She says softly.
And with that, he did come inside. They had dinner inside and even watched a movie. Winter never really thought she would be at this point in her life where she actually had feelings for someone. As for Qrow, he never thought he would fall in love with the coldest woman in Atlas.
