To me Atem is gay but from 1500 BCE in the sense that he has been raised with the expectation of eventually being married to some carefully-chosen princess for the purpose of a political alliance and has never thought much harder than that and assumes everyone else also regards heterosexuality with the same vague disinterest but dutiful sense of obligation. Thief King is bi but from 1500 BCE in the sense that he just assumed he was normal and everyone else in the world is also bi and just, like, faking exclusive straightness to uphold the social order or something, if you say you wouldn't go into the marshes with another man you're just lying. You will need to explain what being gay is to both of them for completely different reasons

The recent Jonouchi-posting led me to noting another detail. Within the manga, Jonouchi watches the tape he receives at Yugi's home with the others because he doesn't have a tape player at his own place and also because he doesn't know who the tape is from and because Yugi had been given a creepy occulty tape from Pegasus very recently, thus Jonouchi felt cautious in a certain way. But this means Shizuka hadn't put her name or return address on the package. I think of her telling Jonouchi at the end of the tape to not tell their father anything. Shizuka did not want their father to know she'd sent Jonouchi anything so she didn't give indication where the package had been mailed from.
