The trail up to the summit was covered in wild blackberries that were just turning ripe. We stopped and ate for a while before continuing the climb.

Marella Caracciolo di Castagneto è una designer e scrittrice italiana, vedova di Gianni Agnelli. Dopo aver conseguito il diploma in Svizzera, ha frequentato l'Accademia di belle arti a Parigi, per poi intraprendere a New York l'attività di fotografa. Una volta rientrata in Italia ha collaborato con la rivista «Vogue», in qualità di redattrice e fotografa. Nel 1973 inizia l'attività di designer d'alta moda, per la quale nel 1977 viene insignita del premio «Product Design Award of the Resources Council Inc.». Appassionata di giardinaggio, ha realizzato alcuni libri sull'argomento: Giardini italiani (1987), Giardino segreto (1998), Ninfa ieri e oggi (1998). Presso Adelphi ha pubblicato, insieme alla nipote Marella Caracciolo Chia, Ho coltivato il mio giardino (2014) e La signora Gocà (2015).
