I mean, in some very interesting Technically Correct ways, they didn't actually die? Now, they're very much no longer alive. But the forces involved are such that they didn't get any of the usual cellular processes of death, they simply went from biology to physics in less time than it takes a signal to travel down your optic nerve.

Completely lost all concepts of joke comprehension for a moment because my instinct was to register this as a new type of kitchencel

I never fancied myself one to freeze to death. Jack London once wrote a story of a man failing to start a fire in the frigid arctic wilderness. There was a time where I scorned the rapid progression of frostbite, and heat loss. Won't be doing that again, if I can help it.
The Freeze. That's what I had decided to call it. (Such a poet aren't I?). We were 98 days after the freeze now. Once I had thought that the winter would end but now I am not so sure. We were almost a hundred days since the Aurora and the weather has only gotten colder. Almost like the sun has been dying out. Freezing itself like the dying ice cube that was the earth.
In Truth I don't know why I am even writing this to you now; great reader of the future. Perhaps I am acting in defiance of Entropy, and energy decay. In some kind of hope that my last days will at least be entertaining to whatever asshole gods turned the thermostat down.
I guess Alan Kay said it best. 'We often think of survivalists as men fighting against nature, this is silly, for the man who fights against nature will die' or however the quote goes. I can't exactly whip out the old trusty smartphone and lookup my quotes for accuracy. I haven't died yet.
In any case. I can't keep writing, my lamp is going to run out of fuel in a moment. I can't afford for this Aurora to end and me to have to walk my way back in the dark.
We report: we walk into masses of warm air as the sun is getting up to its zenith. At times, when we leave the shade of the trees, it hits us out of the blue, something eerie in the sudden change. We smell the undergrowth’s cold humidity with one leg already in the burning sun.
marine commander: so youre saying these aliens attach themselves to your face and pump you full of eggs?
clocky scientist: that's correct. it seems to be their primary method of reproduction.
marine commander: by god, the universe really is a horrible place... hey, ensign. you feeling alright?
naval officer clearly pitching a tent under her uniform: huh... yeah. yeah im. *ahem*. 'm good
you will be in my heart
just got kicked out of the omelas DEI office for asking why there are no former torture kids on the board
they told me they had a "lived experience" subcommittee but it was just the torture kids' parents. tf.
