Hi everyone!

I have had the week off from classes and my first real break since this past summer. I miss the T7S community and my friends and wanted to stop in and say HI! Juggling grad school, two jobs, my thesis, and my clinical rotations is a lot, to say the least, and it leaves me very little time for anything else. This past year has also seen my family go through a lot, both good and bad. Suffice it to say, I needed this break.

First, I just posted a new chapter of my one-shots fic, Between the Scenes. I wrote it this past summer before my classes started, but was waiting for the right time to post it. This week seemed like a good time, both because I have the time, and also with it being Thanksgiving tomorrow, I wanted to express my gratitude for this fandom community that I love so much. In other fandom spaces and in the real world, I struggle a lot to fit in and find my place. The That ‘70s Show Tumblr and fanfiction community has always made me feel accepted and included in this space, even when I disappear for months (to years) at a time. This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for YOU!

I’m also working on another fic, although that one won’t be posted for a while. I started it the weekend before my semester did, my spark of creativity returning at what had to be the worst possible time (lol). I wrote over 15,000 words that weekend, and now whenever I do have a free hour to spare here and there, I work on that fic. I’m at almost 55,000 words now, and going strong. Finding time to write and be creative is hard, but it has done so much for my mental health, and I am really excited to get to share this project with you one day in the (distant) future. 

I haven’t had much time to read any fanfic, but I have been keeping tabs on some of my favorite T7S fanfic authors, and know they’ve been active. Anticipate some reviews from me this weekend as I find time to catch up on my reading!

And a note to my friends – I apologize for disappearing, not answering my DMs, and for just generally not being active lately. I’m going to try to catch up on some messages, but I have a lot to do this week during my time off, so it might have to wait until my semester ends next month. Just know that I miss you all, hope you are well, and am sending you my love from across the web. ❤️

BTS 13: U-Joints & Extra Fries

Set-Up: First and foremost, this Between the Scenes (BTS) actually goes back to season 1. Up until this point, the scenes in this fic have been in chronological order by episode, but this idea popped in my head when I was re-watching “The Career Day” (1x18) a while back. Secondly, many of us know that there are differences in the production and airing order for this episode. This BTS is written in the context of the airing order, falling between the episodes “The Pill” (1x17) and “Prom Night” (1x19), which means Jackie and Kelso are still broken up (despite that, because of the production order, Jackie is apparently with Kelso in this episode – so just assume they are still broken up). A little Zenmasters goodness, this BTS takes place in the Forman garage after Hyde has a conversation with Red about his mother…you know the scene. *wink* Hyde’s POV, but as part of a personal creative exercise, it is written in third-person limited POV (as opposed to my usual first person).

Hi, friends!

Life's been hectic lately as I gear up to go back to grad school again (why do I keep doing this to myself?) next week. I haven't been able to keep up with this blog or my friends here as much as I would like.

Unfortunately, with my classes starting on Monday, I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon. So, it's probably going to be a while before I can post any new content. But I promise to check in from time to time, keep in touch with my friends here, and read some fanfic (good for study breaks!) as much as I can. Plus, I'm always silently lurking from my personal blog anyway, keeping up with what's going on in our little T7S-corner of Tumblr.

In other news, I've recently made a lot of good writing progress on my T7S WIP! I wrote 3 chapters (>11k words) last weekend, as I anticipate that I won't have a lot of writing time in the foreseeable future. With any luck, a healthy dose of denial, and wishful thinking...I hope to use what little free-time I'll have between work and school to potentially finish this project before I graduate in 2 years.

Hi again, friends. I'm back (sort of)!

One year down, one year to go in my grad school program. Between my classes, clinical rotations, thesis, and 2 jobs, I haven't had much time this past year for much of anything else, including this blog and other T7S fandom-related activities, including fanfic. I have not had time to read really anything outside of a scholarly peer-reviewed journal or write anything that isn't a clinic note or part of my research.

But...with summer upon us, my schedule is a bit less strenuous! I still have work, clinical rotations, and my thesis to work on, but I am hopeful that I will have some free time before classes start up again in the fall. Plus, my sister is getting married at the end of the month, and I'm the maid of honor, so that's been taking up a lot of my time as well. After the wedding, I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone (DMs incoming shortly!), picking my WIP back up, catching up on fanfic, and hopefully posting some content here.

In other news, last month this blog turned 10 years old! I was planning to post something, but as you might have guessed, I didn't have time. Although I haven't always been active over these last 10 years, I will ALWAYS come back. I love T7S, and I love our T7S fandom community here even more. Here's to another 10 years!

NEW Chapter of That ‘70s Show FanFiction

TITLE: STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT CHAPTER 23

Chapter Summary: It's the end of Red and Kitty's first date and they're finally alone

Story Summary: After suffering the loss of each their spouses, neighbors Red Forman and Kitty Halpert come up with a sleeping arrangement so that neither one of them have to face a lonely night in their empty houses again.The arrangement causes quite a buzz in their small town as well as within their families.

Red’s daughter Jackie claims she’s never seen him happier. However, Kitty’s son, Eric who is going through his own marital troubles, does not like or trust Red because of Red’s darker past. And though Red gets the approval of Eric’s son, as well as Eric’s best friend and Kitty’s adopted son Steven Hyde, Eric’s dislike for Red does anything but lessen.

Still Red and Kitty continue to spend their nights-and their days-together, and as they learn more about each other their bond grows stronger. Could an unconventional sleep arrangement lead the way to a second chance at love?

Alternate Universe, give it a shot, but please be kind!

Fake Love Doesn’t Last — a fake dating AU

Rating: G (for now)

Summary: Fake love doesn’t last because it either falls apart or turns into real love.— It starts as Hyde taking Jackie to prom, and then spirals into a plot for Jackie to win Michael back through jealously. But Jackie doesn’t know what’s about to happen, and it’s a lot more than pretending to go on a few dates with her enemy.

A Little Game

What is your favorite episode? And why is it your favorite?

Me: My favorite episode is 1x7, Kitty teaching Hyde to dance reminds me of when my mom used to teach me how to dance, she always told me that girls liked it when the guy could dance, so that's why this is my favorite episode.

I agree, “That Disco Episode” is a great episode! And a very sweet reason that’s it’s your favorite.

I actually thought about this recently, and if I had to pick one favorite episode of That ‘70s Show, I’d have to go with “Hyde’s Birthday” (4x23). It’s got the humor with Eric, Donna, and Kelso trying to steal the street sign for Hyde. It’s got Jackie’s birthday kiss - a taste of what is soon to come for her and Hyde. And it plays into the theme of found family when Red talks to Hyde and reassures him he doesn’t have to move out now that he’s 18 years old.

❌ What's a trope you will never write?

Love triangles. 😒 It’s such a tired trope. I feel like we don’t see it too much anymore, but about 10 years ago it was soooo overused. If I never have to read another love triangle again, it will be to soon. And I will never write one.

👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!

I’m in the early stages (i.e., outlining) a multi-chapter T7S fic that takes place during season 1! But that’s all I’m going to say about it! 🤐

🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them.

Since you are the RxK queen, I’ll share a headcanon I have about Kitty that is inspired by my own mother (who is also a nurse)! When her kids are old enough, the filter on Kitty’s dirty nurse humor* (think “The Career Day” (1x18)) slips away for good and she gets a good laugh at seeing her family’s reactions to her jokes. Red blushes, Laurie loves them, Eric squirms, and Hyde often just smiles ruefully. Eventually, they create a ‘Dirty Nurse Humor’ jar that Kitty has to put money in (like a swear jar) every time she cracks one of her jokes.

*Kitty’s jokes may sometimes toe the line, but never cross the line. After all, she is a nurse, a profession that first and foremost requires human compassion.

🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

Hmm, I think I’d have to go with It Takes Time to Fall in Love. That’s the fic I wrote for the 2017 ZMA, and the prompt that I chose was so different from anything else that I’d ever written before, which made it all that much more fun to write!

🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately?

I love music, but I feel like I might be in the minority when I say that I really don’t listen to music when I write! It’s too distracting.

I don’t think so? I’m thinking back to my older fics, but nothing comes to mind.

Comments from readers of Liminal Space are more fresh in my mind, and I think most readers anticipated that Hyde would find out eventually what Jackie had told the cheer squad about them. But I wrote that intentionally for the reader to figure out, so that probably doesn’t count!

💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?

In a way, Let’s Grow Up Together broke my heart a bit, mostly because it was the fic that I always dreamed of writing and I gave it my all. In fact, I took a longggg break from writing (about 5 years) after finishing that one, because I felt like I’d accomplished all that I intended to do as a fanfic writer after that one.

🌞 Do you have a preferred time of day to write?

Oh gosh, no. I write when I find time to write, which isn’t often, between work, family, and soon, grad school, unfortunately. 😅

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

Star imagery, which culminated in its full form in my story Jackie Stargazer. 🌟

Generally, I let the character(s) and their emotions in a given moment dictate the imagery. Every character who views the same place, for instance, will (and should) describe it differently according to their personality and current emotional state. In Hyde's Long Way Home, for example, Jackie takes Hyde to the lake. His narrative describes the environment with imagery of death and destruction to indicate his depression and hopelessness.

A common theme is finding or fighting for freedom (from all sorts of obstacles, internal and external). That one is often combined with healing in some way and/or learning how to accept joy. Owning one's mistakes (often after struggling to realize and accept personal accountability) and doing better is another theme in my stories.

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?

Hyde. ☺️

🎉 What leads you to consider a fic a success?

Depends on what one's definition of success is. For me, if I believe I've written the character arcs and plot in an emotionally satisfying way, using all the writing technique I have to transfer what's in my brain to the page accurately so that the reader can see/hear/smell/taste/feel what the characters do in the story, that's success.

Not all stories will be for all people. But when one of mine affects a reader positively, I also consider that success.
