So checklists like these can be useful for when you want to specifically convey a certain tone for what the character’s saying, but the “instead of said” thing still rubs me the wrong way. “Said” is fine and good and not something anyone should worry about overusing, because it doesn’t draw attention to itself. Also some of these don’t really work as dialogue tags - you can’t “tremble” a sentence.

writing tip: don’t tell us your character’s backstory. don’t tell us what your character is thinking. don’t tell us what your character is doing. don’t tell us anything. the reader should simply look at a blank page and be suddenly overcome with emotion.
