my mom told me this story tonight about my grandfather. she said when he was a little boy he was afraid robbers would break into his house in the middle of the night and try to abduct him out of his bed. he thought that they would be able to feel that he was the shape of a little boy under the covers and know to grab him. so he would try to fall asleep in the shape of a letter of the alphabet. so that they would feel for him and be like "oh it's just the letter R, not a kidnappable child"
âŠlong story that many of you donât have the context for but suffice it to say, a sudden enormous boxing-up-of-familial-stuff-in-another-state project has abruptly been thrust into my immediate future (tl;dr no one died, contractor had said they could work around boxes &c but now are demanding it all be Out, ideally Yesterday) so like. pity my upcoming sweaty woes & if iâm extra uncommunicative over the next week-ish(?): that will be why đ

anyway since i just saw a post ft. âgritty announces itâs illegal to be straight in the month of june, no more straight peopleâ literally immediately after seeing a reminder from a straight trans person that rhetoric like that is hostile to them:
reminder that straight trans people exist and that there are straight members of the queer community who deserve better than to be shamed, excluded, and erased in pride month :)

âOne of the Tumblrinas, whose name I cannot recall, has a passage, which I am unable at the moment to remember, in one of her posts, which for the time being has slipped my mind, which hits off admirably this age-old situation.â

There's a recurring online tendency to aestheticize consensus itself. The imagined future village is full of emotionally compatible people who enjoy communal gardening, conflict resolution circles, acoustic folk music, mutual aid potlucks, and repairing bicycles together at sunset. Which is nice for the people who genuinely enjoy that lifestyle. But plenty of humans are solitary, prickly, obsessive, urban, nocturnal, sensory-seeking, technologically attached, contrarian, novelty-seeking, private, or just plain difficult. Those people do not evaporate after the revolution. They do not get Left Behind while you are Raptured into the Utopia. They become your neighbors.

ugh a handful of things (posts lbr, comma my own reactions to) that i wanna post about but my brain is Too Sludgy :(
like the short version is 'i think it's better to be honest with yourself when you feel quizzically judgmental abt things, and like, accept your own judgment while also understanding that your judgment is just that: your judgment, that won't necessarilyâ& shouldn't necessarily!âhold any particular weight with anyone else? instead of going 'oh i don't judge people who engage in [morally harmless but cringe behavior], i just think they're inexplicable freaks i want to rotate under a microscope until they explain to me why [activity i personally find charmless] appeals to them' as if that weren't in fact a deeply judgmental & also frankly condescending attitude to be harboring, lmao
but tumblr gives people a complex abt Being Judgmental, so! instead we must Merely Be Curious đ§'

[IDs: (1) Facebook post by Durham Miners' Association that reads:
We call upon all former miners and their families to join the Durham Miners' Association at Durham Pride UK from 10:30 am to march from Palace Green through the streets of Durham. Mike Jackson ,founder of Lesbian and Gays support the Miners, will march with our banner. We will never forget the support and solidarity the LGBT+ community gave us during the 1984/85 miners' strike. It is now our time to return that solidairty. "United we stand, divided we fall". "An injury to one, is an injury to all". See less

#durham miners association as always squarely on the right side of history #comments largely full of trans flag emojis also
#to be clear this isn't new - the miners associations have marched with pride since 1985 - but it just. idk man i needed that. #sometimes you need to see that people do in fact remember what solidarity is #(post and photo both taken from the dma facebook page)
