The stadium was still buzzing long after the final whistle.
The lights of the huge arena reflected against thousands of waving flags, the chants still echoing through the night air. It had been a tense match, one of those matches where every tackle felt personal and every goal felt like a small war won.
And when the referee blew the whistle, the crowd exploded.
On the pitch, the players slowly relaxed after ninety minutes of intensity. Some dropped to the grass, others clapped toward the fans. The usual post match ritual began: players from both teams lining up, shaking hands, exchanging brief words after the chaos of the match.
Gavi was still breathing hard. His hair was damp with sweat, his jersey slightly pulled out from all the shirt grabbing during the game. He had that same fire still burning in his chest, the one everyone knew him for. Even after the match ended, his competitive energy didn’t disappear immediately.
One by one he greeted the Madrid players with quick handshakes. Polite. Short. Nothing more.
When he finally stepped away, he scanned the stands automatically. He always did that. His eyes naturally searched for one person.
She was near the VIP section, leaning slightly over the barrier with a bright smile, clapping proudly toward the field.
The moment he spotted her, something in his expression softened. Just a little. He lifted his hand and waved in her direction.
She waved back immediately, beaming like she always did when watching him play.
But before he could walk closer toward the sideline, something caught his attention.
A white jersey. Number 15.
Gavi’s brows pulled together slightly as he watched the Real Madrid attacking midfielder walking toward the same section of the stands. Arda Güler.
At first Gavi didn’t think much of it. Players sometimes greeted friends or family sitting in VIP areas.
But then Arda stopped directly in front of her. And she smiled. Not just a polite smile. A familiar one.
Gavi slowed his steps. He watched as she leaned over the barrier slightly, and Arda stepped closer.
Then it happened. She wrapped her arms around him in a quick hug.
For a moment the world seemed to freeze. Across the field, a few Barcelona players noticed it too.
Frenkie blinked in confusion as he sips some water.
Ferran nudged Pedri quickly.
“What…the fuck?”, Pedri muttered when he saw that too.
They were confused. Because there she was Gavi’s girlfriend, laughing softly as she spoke with a Real Madrid player. They spoke comfortably, like people who had known each other for a long time. Arda said something that made her laugh, shaking her head before answering him. And Arda pulled her in another quick hug.
Friendly. Warm. Normal. Except…it didn’t look normal from where Gavi was standing.
He stopped completely now, staring. His jaw tightened slightly. Inside his chest something twisted.
Of course he knew about her past. She had told him early in their relationship. Honest, open, mature about it. They had dated. They had broken up. And they had stayed on good terms.
Gavi had nodded when she explained it months ago, trying to act casual. But hearing about it and seeing it right in front of him after a Clásico match were two very different things.
His teammates slowly gathered near him, noticing the direction of his gaze.
Lamine followed it. “Oh shit”. He immediately understood.
Martin whistled quietly under his breath. “That’s…awkward.”
Gavi didn’t say anything. He just stared.
She looked happy talking to him. Comfortable. Like there was history there. Which…there was.
Arda said something again, gesturing toward the pitch like he was teasing her about the match result. She rolled her eyes playfully and nudged his shoulder.
Gavi felt his chest tighten more. The worst part? Arda looked completely relaxed. Like hugging his girlfriend after losing a Clásico was the most normal thing in the world.
That’s when she finally noticed Gavi. Her eyes lifted toward the field and she froze slightly when she saw him standing there with that ‘clearly not happy’ look. Watching.
Their eyes met across the distance. For a second she looked a little nervous. Then she smiled and waved toward him, clearly excited. But Gavi didn’t wave back this time. He simply turned and started walking toward the tunnel.
His teammates exchanged looks.
“…Yep”. Raphinha murmured. “He’s pissed.”
Pedri sighed softly. “Yeah, clearly.”
The locker room was quieter than usual. Usually after a Clásico win there was music, laughter, chaos. Tonight it was slightly different. Mostly because everyone kept glancing toward one person.
Gavi sat on the bench in front of his locker, pulling off his tape slowly. His expression was calm. Too calm. Which for him meant something was definitely wrong.
A few minutes later the door opened. She stepped inside hesitantly, having been allowed through by staff.
The moment she appeared, the room went awkwardly silent. Everyone suddenly became very interested in their shoes. Or their phones. Or their lockers. Anything but the tension in the room.
She looked around until her eyes found him. He hadn’t looked up yet.
She walked closer slowly. “Gavi?”
He finally lifted his head. His expression wasn’t angry exactly. But his jaw was tight, and his eyes were sharp in that way they got when he was irritated.
“You had fun?”, he asked flatly.
Her brows knit together. “What?”
The room got even quieter somehow.
She immediately understood what he meant. “Oh…you mean Arda?.”
He scoffed softly. “Oh?”, he repeated.
“He just came to say hi”. she explained gently.
“Yeah,” Gavi muttered. “Looked like more than that to me.”
She crossed her arms slightly. “Are you serious right now?”
“He’s just my ex, not my enemy.”
The way he said it made Lamine quietly cover his face with his hand with embarrassment.
She sighed softly. “He also used to be part of my life.”
“Still, he doesn’t have to hug you after a Clásico, in front of me”. Gavi snapped.
For the first time his emotions showed clearly. Not just irritation. Something deeper. Jealousy. Possessiveness. And maybe a little insecurity he hated admitting.
She looked at him for a long moment. Then her voice softened. “You’re jealous, Gavi?.”
Gavi opened his mouth immediately. “No I’m-“
Pau quietly whispered to Bernal, “That’s the same thing”. Marc closed his mouth quickly.
She stepped closer to him now, lowering her voice. “Pablo.”
That name always softened him a little. Even now.
“He’s my past”, she said gently. “He came to congratulate me for your win.”
“For my win?” he muttered.
“For Barcelona’s win”, she corrected with a small smile.
He didn’t smile back yet.
She reached forward and lightly touched his hand.
“He asked how I was”, she continued softly. “We talked for two minutes, that’s it.”
“Pablo…”. Her fingers squeezed his hand.
His shoulders relaxed slightly despite himself.
Then she said something that made him finally look up. “But I was waiting to hug you more.”
That caught him off guard. “What?”
She shrugged a little. “You were the one I came here for to watch.”
He studied her face carefully. Looking for hesitation. There wasn’t any. Just honesty. And that warm look she always gave him after his matches.
“You still shouldn’t hug Madrid players while you’re my girl”, he murmured under his breath.
She laughed softly. “Listen to yourself.”
He rolled his eyes slightly but finally stood up. Now he was standing very close to her.
“So…you’re not secretly in love with him again?”, he asked bluntly.
Her eyes widened. “Are you insane?”
She shook her head. “Hell no.”
Then she leaned closer, whispering teasingly, “I prefer the crazy Barcelona midfielder who nearly gets a yellow card every match.”
A few teammates snorted quietly before they could hide it.
Gavi tried to stay serious. But failed. His lips twitched.
“…He hugged you”, he muttered one last time.
Before he could say anything else, she wrapped her arms around him. This hug was different. Longer. Warmer. And Gavi instantly melted into it, his arms automatically wrapping around her waist.
The locker room erupted into teasing noises.
“Finally!”, Lewandowski shouted.
Gavi ignored them. He rested his chin lightly on her head, holding her a little tighter.
“I didn’t like seeing that”, he murmured quietly near her ear. “I want you for myself only, especially when it comes to him, he just game another reason to hate him more.”
She smiled against his chest. “Oh, stop overreacting, Gavi.”
And honestly…Everyone in that room knew one thing. Gavi might be fiery. Stubborn. And ridiculously competitive. But when it came to her? He was completely gone, he’s not playing games about her.
